NGUYEN--Khanh, M.D. It is with great sorrow that we recognize the sudden and tragic passing of our beloved colleague and friend Khanh Nguyen, MD, on Sunday, June 6. A member of the Mount Sinai community for more than 20 years, Dr. Nguyen was an esteemed pediatric cardiac surgeon, mentor, and role model. Dr. Nguyen earned his medical degree from the University of California-Irvine. He completed his cardiothoracic surgery residency training at The Mount Sinai Hospital, and then a pediatric cardiac surgery fellowship at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London. A national leader in pediatric cardiovascular surgery, Dr. Nguyen served as Chief of Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery at The Mount Sinai Hospital from 2002-2017. He pioneered less invasive approaches in pediatric cardiac surgery, and was renowned for his dedication to patients. Dr. Nguyen had a strong commitment to advancing cardiovascular surgery in developing countries, and frequently traveled to China, Honduras, Romania, Vietnam, and other countries to lead surgical missions. Dr. Nguyen brought colleagues on these missions to provide patient care and to model the multi-disciplinary approach critical to success in pediatric cardiovascular surgery. At the time of his passing, Dr. Nguyen was serving as the Chief of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at Maria Fareri Children's Hospital in Valhalla, New York. We will remember Dr. Nguyen as an extremely talented, generous, and humble leader--a "surgeon's surgeon." He made a difference in the world, and will be profoundly missed. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. Physicians, Nurses, and Staff The Mount Sinai Hospital and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai
