AS a polio survive, age twelve, I exchanged climbing trees with longboned legs for climbing visions: writing in staves of muxi in my hospital bed, then back out into the new world, changed as though irradiated by light. I lie with Max in the rain in the whie bed exultant at life.

To the family,
I send my sincerest condolences. The swift do not always win the race, nor do the mighty win the battle, nor do the wise always have the food, nor do the intelligent always have the riches, nor do those with knowledge always have success, because time and unexpected events overtake them all.-Ecclesiastes 9:11

PEACE and COMFORT TO ONE
September 14, 2016
I'm so sorry that I never had the opportunity of meeting you, Max. Our families have something in common. My sister, Carol, died of Ewings sarcoma when she was fifteen and I was thirteen. After diagnosis and treatment she lived for eight months. Perhaps you will meet and then join the troupe of angels that preceded you both. Bless you in your new adventure.

Just read some of his great and moving poems on Boston Review's site. Didn't know his work. What a loss! I'll certainly get his book in the Fall.
