ABDUS-SALAAM--Sheila.
With deep and heartfelt sadness, the Trustees and Administration of Barnard College mourn the passing of Sheila Abdus-Salaam '74, a devoted alumna and trailblazing jurist. Judge Abdus-Salaam served on the New York State Court of Appeals and was known for being on the side of justice for the poor and underserved. She graciously shared her wisdom and experience with Barnard, serving on committees of the Alumnae Association and participating in many reunions and gatherings over the years. In 2014, the College presented her with the Distinguished Alumna Award in recognition of her commitment. Barnard honors the memory of this extraordinary woman and extends its deepest sympathies to her entire family. Jolyne Caruso-FitzGerald Chair, Board of Trustees Robert Goldberg Interim President

Only God knew what was going on in your heart before you left us. He also will not put no more on us than we can bare. There are not many more people left here in this wicked world that cared so much for those that are less fortunate. These people are unique and truly God-sent. A real blessing. You will be greatly missed from our presence. And may God give the peace and comfort to each one of your family members and associates as well. May you rest in peace.
