I worked with Arnold when he was writing his motorway series. I learnt a lot from him - including the phrase riparian boundary - which I've never forgotten! A kind, gentle and patient man who was generous with his time and advice.

I was very sorry to read Arnold's passing and would have been at his funeral if I could have. I knew him well at St Thomas's Primary School, St Kents and the New Zealand Herald and he was always a good friend. My thoughts are with your family, particularly Jane, Stuart and Ross. RIP Arnold.
