Derek and Yvonne were very special people to my Mum and Dad and us as their family. Their service to their congregations and the special relationships and friendships they built were above and beyond expectations and we'll always remember them with a special place in our hearts. St Martins Bowling Club
We are saddened to learn of the loss one of our Life Members and wish to convey the condolences of St. Martins Bowls Inc. to Derek's family and friends.
Derek joined St. Martins in 1991 and was secretary through the period of amalgamation of the Men's and Women's clubs. His personality and skills were a significant part in smoothing the path to amalgamation. Derek was also a respected Umpire of bowls in the Canterbury region and will be known widely throughout Canterbury because of his contribution to the game.

Two current members, Gerald Rickerby and Bob Mossop, also joined the Club in the 1990's and recall their friendship with him fondly: he was an active member socially at the Club telling stories and producing skits; a very funny man!

Some of us remember him from just before he left Christchurch to be closer to family; and on a couple of occasions when he visited the Club while in Christchurch. As a Life member since 2006, he received the Club newspaper and just last year sent an email reply saying how much he enjoyed keeping up with Club he contributed so much to.

He is remembered fondly and we express our condolences to his family and friends.
