Sept. 28, 1938 - Jan. 29, 2017 MEEKER Meeker resident, Billy "Bama" Brown, 78, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2017, in Oklahoma City.Bill was born September 28, 1938 in Arab, Alabama to Belton Lewis and Jewell (Harbin) Brown. After graduating from high school he joined the United States Air Force and served from 1958-1962. He then attended the University of Alabama where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Architecture. Bill met the love of his life, Joann Moore, and together they raised their children. Once the children were grown, they ran away to Colorado. While there, Bill was a volunteer firefighter in Cripple Creek. He also worked for animal control, but could never take the animals to the pound. Instead, would find them loving homes, including his own. In 1990, he started his career as a police officer. He worked for the police department until 1997 when he retired. They moved back to Oklahoma and made their home in Meeker. Bill enjoyed life. He loved riding his Harley, fishing in his pond, and spent a great deal of time doing leather work, making wallets, belts, bracelets, etc. Bill was a loving, nurturing, giving, selfless man. He dedicated his life to serving his community, his family, and his friends. His last act of giving in life was the donation of his organs.He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Cloie Bannister Plunkett Brown; son, Billy Lewis Brown, Jr.; and brothers, Kyle Dexter Brown and James Julius Brown.He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Joann Brown; children, Donna Jo Brown, James Dexter Brown, Trevena and Thomas Bert of Meeker, OK, Bonita and Kevin York of Mustang, OK, Theresa and Randy Jensen of Plano, IL, Michael Dean Reagin, Robin and Howard Petty, Pete and Tammy Reagin; grandchildren, Jerrell Housley II, Corey Bert, Kristina Johnson, Dannah Johnson, Justin Jensen, Jon Jensen, and many more; great grandchildren, Jerrell Housley III, Leighton Jensen, and Kyle Foster; brothers-in-law, Randy Moore and David and Carolyn Moore; sister-in-law, Joanne Brown; 5 nephews, 1 niece; longtime friend, Ralph Ogden, Jr.; and numerous other family and friends.In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Life Share, Oklahoma City or Free to Live, Edmond.Visitation will be 5pm-8pm Thursday, February 2, at Resthaven Funeral Home. Services will be 2pm Friday, February 3, at Resthaven Funeral Home with interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

My uncle was an amazing man. He loved the country. I remember him putting my daughter on a horse with him and walking around part of the property. She was maybe 1. And loves horses to this day. I hadn't seen in a while...regret it now...
He will be greatly missed by all of us.
