CHARLENE FRANCIS Obituary

Charlene A. Francis
July 5, 1923 - October 14, 2019

OKLAHOMA CITY
Charlene A. Francis passed away on October 14, 2019. Charlene was born July 5, 1923 to Fred and Hiawatha Stephens in Columbus Ohio. Charlene was fiercely independent and had a reputation for her strong work ethic. She spent forty plus years of her career as a System Management Analyst for the US Government. Upon retirement, Charlene found ways to fill her time through volunteer work, making porcelain dolls and serving as an instructor and board member for both the Senior Net User Group (SNUG) and the Computer Club of Oklahoma City (CCOKC). Charlene was also involved as a volunteer for Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and World Neighbors. She was nominated as an "Ageless Hero", a volunteer awards program sponsored by Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Charlene loved nothing more than to spend time with those she loved. A perfect day for Charlene would be a Sunday morning breakfast with her family followed by church and finishing the afternoon with a competitive game of Scrabble. Charlene is preceded in death by her parents, four siblings and husband George Francis Sr.. Charlene leaves behind her son George Francis Jr., grandchildren George Francis III, Catche Worsham, David Francis, Christopher Francis, Elena Francis and Anne Hendrick. Charlene also leaves behind 12 great grand-children and 6 great great grandchildren and countless friends. A visitation viewing will be held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Oklahoma City, on Thursday October 17, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family members being present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am, Friday, October 18, 2019 at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 2717 West Hefner Road, OKC. In lieu of flowers, Charlene requested that donations be made to Computer Club of Oklahoma City/Senior Net User Group, located at 3000 United Founders Blvd., Suite 201, OKC, OK 73112-4279.

Charlene was an amazing person and volunteer. She served as a RSVP volunteer for 29 years, and during that time Charlene contributed 11,200 service hours to make our community a better place to live. Charlene's passion of serving others including mentoring young upcoming doctors about the aging process (in real life) through the OU Medical Center and assuring people of all ages had knowledge and experience with technology. What an amazing woman! Bless you always. BP

Have tried to email our love to the family and to HONOR this sweet, amazingly capable woman. George Faulk raved about her abilities in leading the Senior Computer Club. Her son adored her and was ALWAYS there for her. Wish we had known about the viewing and funeral in Time to reschedule our conflicts. Glad we can contribute to the Computer Club she loved SO MUCH, because SHE contributed hugely in her leadership.

It is 7:53 Thursday night and I just NOW learned of your Mom's death and the viewing. I WISH I could have been there with my George. We have a wheelchair Transport at 10 a.m. Friday for a 10:30 Hearing Aid appt. Too late to cancel --again, we would have LOVED to given your Mother the love and honor she deserved. We will make a contribution. What a sweet face--and a wonderful son and family!!! George Faulk's roommate died the day before and we were looking for an obit in Thursday's paper--so sad we missed honoring her. Georgia
Vaughn's words were what George Faulk would have liked to say. George Jr.--you were her ROCK!!!!!

When I attended Computer Club OKC, I met Charlene. I was only a face of many to her, but she was such a 'delightful being' that I shall always remember her as one of GOD's special ones. George you were her rock, and as a pier close to her age, I could feel the love, and pride she had for your being her son. Thanks for bringing her to CCOKC and sharing her with those that were lucky being there when she attended. I can no longer be present, and miss it so much. Cheers to HEAVEN for letting us keep her so many years on this earth. Sincerely, Georgia Vaughn

Charlene was a true example of being a faithful follower of her Lord and Savior. I had the privilege to serve communion to Charlene and I know she appreciated the words of faith as she listened.

She will always have a special place in my life as I reflect on our journey together.

Blessings to the family.
