Daniel Thomas Sprouse
Dec. 30, 1952 - June 25, 2020

PAULS VALLEY
Daniel Thomas Sprouse was born in Litchfield, IL to John Denson and Ethel Sprouse on Dec. 30, 1952. He died June 25, 2020, leaving behind his wife of 40 years, Candace Blalock; son, Justin Sprouse; and daughter, Brittany Scruggs, her husband Kevin and their triplets, Harper, Jeter and Brier Scruggs.
Dan graduated from the Honors program of Illinois State University in 1975, then received his Juris Doctor degree from Oklahoma City University Law School in 1978. Initially employed with his dream job at Legal Aid of Western Oklahoma, he decided that it would be best for the family to move to Pauls Valley where he opened his own practice in 1981. Dan was asked to serve on the Human Rights Committee for the Garvin County Community Living Center in 1982 serving continually in that position for 38 years. He was active in the Garvin County Bar Association and took charge of the annual continuing education seminars for more than a decade. Dan was elected to the Board of Governors for the State Bar Association for two terms and was Vice-President of the State Bar Association in 2002. Dan was appointed to several municipal judgeships in Garvin County, including Pauls Valley, Lindsay, Wynnewood and Stratford. He incorporated the towns of Foster and Katie and created the ambulance district for Wynnewood. He was named Master and Outstanding Judge by the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Inns of Court and was adviser/sponsored the PVHS Mock Trial Team. He loved practicing law in Garvin County, for him it was a "calling." Dan was a member of Kiwanis, the Audubon Society, and a lifelong member of the Pauls Valley Methodist Church.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Denson and Ethel Sprouse; a brother, David; twin grandchildren, Denson and Aisley Scruggs; niece, Chezley Howle; and nephew, Patrick Bolen. He is survived by his brother, Gene D Sprouse and his wife H-Mae and their children, Steven and Emi; another brother, Gerald Sprouse and his wife Betty, their children, Kelly and Martin; sister-in-law, Bobbi Sprouse and children, Joel, Sean and Rory; sisters-in-law, Christy Meier and Phyllis Boone and her husband Larry; nieces and nephews, Ambre and Ron Gooch, Chelsea Boone, Alaina and James Risenger; great-nephew, Talor Gooch and his wife Alexandra; and great-nieces, Savanna Bolen and Cassidi Gooch.
If you choose to honor Dan or his family during this time, in lieu of flowers, please donate to Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma Inc.

Candace, Brittany and family--Reading through this guestbook made me regret not knowing Dan better. Although I only met him a couple of times, I felt as if I knew him by the way Brittany spoke so fondly of him. He was a truly special man. I hope you can take comfort in the way he was able to touch the lives of so very many and truly left this Earth better than he found it. Prayers for comfort and peace in knowing that his job here is done and he is reaping the ultimate reward in heaven. May you forever be reminded of his wisdom in all that you do and recognize his kindness in your own heart.

This is so hard for me to believe. I wasn't finished having conversations with Dan. Of course, when we were together, Candace and I were the ones talking and Dan and Paul mostly listen. Dan's love, advice and support has meant so much to me over the years. Dan and Candace welcomed me into their lives when I moved to Pauls Valley. I am forever grateful. Candace, Justin, Brit and your family, please accept my deepest sympathy. I love you all.

Dan touched our lives in an amazing way! Our children all loved him as well as our grandchildren. They could not wait to see Dan and Candace when they came from out of state to visit! Dan was so kind and he had a big heart for family, friends, clients, and more. He worshipped Candace. We will all miss him. I will eat a steak for him every time I can and hope he feels it in Heaven!

Some of my favorite memories of Dan are the simple things he did which were also very special! Britt and Kevin had a little dog named Chaucer, well every time Dan came to visit in their home he had a special treat for Chaucer. And Chaucer would perk up because he knew that treat was coming! Also, on Tuesday evenings when he came to Lindsay to hold court he would bring the triplets McDonalds, another thing the trips were excited to get! Dan loved going to see Jeter and Kash play ball, he was so proud and supportive of them! While he was at the top of his professional field, he took the time to just be a poppy! Candace, Kenny and I and Marisa are so very sorry for yours, Justin and Britts loss! Prayers for the days ahead and we will be ready to help in any way!

A kinder, more gentle soul would be a challenge to find. He was brilliant. I dont know that I ever asked him a question he couldnt answer. Seemed like he knew everything! Many memories that will be cherished... My heart is with you guys. We will miss you, Dan.
