Jake and I were colleagues at the University of Nebraska between 1986 and 1987. Although a short period of time, Jake was a valued mentor to me. I remember the conversations we had and the valuable advice Jake provided to me. My prayers go out to Jake's family and friends.

So sorry to hear of Jake's death. He was a good friend and colleague. His efforts kept ADURS going and as a result, the ideas shared and generated through the meetings helped improve the health of countless people in Medicaid programs throughout the country.

The Stroke Support Group will certainly miss Jake, especially his smile and determination and grace he showed after his stroke. He was fortunate to have a wonderful caregiver, Deanne. It was a privilege to know him and he will be deeply missed.

My wife and I moved to Purdue in the Fall of 1980 so I could pursue my Ph.D. I was given a desk in an office next to Jake, who was in his third and final year at Purdue. He was a mentor and helper to me during that year. He gave me advice and answered many questions about the classes and professors. Always a gentleman and a trusted confidante. It would have been harder on me if it were not for Jake's help and encouragement.
