JAMES BEAVERS Obituary

October 16, 1929 - December 31, 2018 OKLAHOMA CITY Dr. Beavers passed from this life peacefully on Dec. 31, 2018, at the age of 89. Jim or "Jimmy" as he was affectionately known, was born on Oct. 16, 1929, to Lois and Harry Beavers in Garber, OK. In 1947, he graduated from Garber High School and left to attend Oklahoma City University to pursue his dream of becoming a physician. Upon graduation from OCU, Dr. Beavers attended medical school at The University of Oklahoma, where he graduated in 1955. He then completed his first year of internship at the old Mercy Hospital before he joined the Navy for two years, beginning in 1956. Dr. Beavers was stationed in California at El Toro Marine Base. Upon finishing his military obligation, he returned to Oklahoma City to complete his residency before beginning a private practice in obstetrics and gynecology. A Board Certified physician, Dr. Beavers partnered with Dr. Gerald Rogers for many years, delivering babies primarily at St. Anthony, the old Mercy location, and Presbyterian Hospital. Upon the retirement of Dr. Rogers, Dr. Beavers moved his practice to Baptist and Deaconess hospitals. He continued touching the lives of his thousands of patients until his retirement in 1992. Even though Dr. Beavers was not delivering babies anymore, he continued a life of service at MEPS, performing physicals for new military recruits well into his 80s. Dr. Beavers was preceded in death by his parents, Lois and Harry Beavers; his brothers, Junior, Graham, and Jerry Beavers; and one sister, Bonnie Brown. He is survived and loved by his three children and their families: Debra (Jon) Yeagley and children, Anne (Ted) Ledbetter, Carleton Yeagley (Dr. Laurel Persa), and Kevin (Taylor) Yeagley; James and Sarah Beavers and children, Dr. Christine Beavers, Drs. Kimberly Beavers and Farhad Omoumi, and Emily (Blake) Brennan; and Dr. John (Grise) Beavers and children, Edwin and Ronald Africano. Dr. Beavers is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Lucy, Jon Albert, and Parker Ledbetter, and Camryn Yeagley. Also mourning his loss are the mother of his children and his best friend, Marian Beavers; and his sister, Virgie Cherry and her family. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, colleagues, and friends. Dr. Beavers' greatest legacy was his caring and giving heart. He was abundantly generous to all who knew him. He completely encompassed the art of being an exceptional physician: showing compassion and empathy, with a deep commitment to doing what was best for his patients and their families. This generosity of spirit was evident to all who knew him, especially to his own family. Thank you to the wonderful caregivers and staff at The Legacy at Quail Ridge Assisted Living for their loving care, and to the dedicated nurses with Hometown Home Health. A Celebration of Dr. Beavers' Life will be held on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019, 4-6 p.m. at The Ranch, 3000 West Britton Road, Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation in Dr. Beavers' name.
