Mary Anne (Vail) Giles
October 24, 1933 - November 13, 2020

NEWCASTLE
Mary Anne (Vail) Giles, 87, of Newcastle, OK, spread her earthly angel wings to take flight into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, November 13, 2020, and become a member of Heaven's Angel Choir. Born on October 24, 1933 in Holdenville, Oklahoma to Luther and Lela (Horn) Vail, Mary Anne was the third of nine children. A 1952 graduate of Sapulpa High School where she was crowned Band Queen and Football Queen. While in high school, Mary Anne worked for Judge Grimes at the Creek County Courthouse. After graduating from high school, she married the love of her life, Bill Giles, in September 1952. Mary Anne and Bill moved to Oklahoma City in 1955 and then settled in Moore, OK in 1960. In 1966 Mary Anne opened the Merle Norman Cosmetics store in the City of Moore Shopping Center. Approximately three years later she added a clothing boutique and changed the name to Mary Anne's Clothing and Merle Norman. In 1977, she opened a second Merle Norman in Purcell, OK. She sold the stores in 1980 and later worked as a legal secretary and then an Executive Secretary for her husband's consulting firm, Asbestos Analytics. Mary Anne was an active member in the Southern Oaks Free Will Baptist Church (formerly Central Ave. Free Will Baptist Church) where she served as a Deacon's Wife, Sunday School teacher, and a member of the choir and various singing groups. In 1990, Mary Anne and Bill became active members of Newcastle Free Will Baptist Church where her son, Frank Giles, was her Pastor. They continued their work for the Lord and mentored many people for God's Kingdom along the way. Mary Anne was always a gracious hostess and a fabulous cook and pie maker. Her pies were "heavenly" and she was always good for a hug and a smile that made you feel like you were so special. She was rarely caught without her full face of make-up and dressed to the nines. She treasured time with family and friends and traveled as often as she could. She loved to see new places and make memories. She always saw the good in people and never had a harsh word. Mary Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Lela Vail; and by siblings, Frankie Vail, Dorotha Ihle, Paul Vail, Don Vail and Johnny Vail. She is survived by two sisters, Maxine Vail and Sue Morrissette of Tulsa; and her husband of 68 years, Bill Giles of the home; son, Frank (Rhonda) Giles of Newcastle; daughter, Lisa (Gary) Caison of Newcastle; daughter, Jennifer (Carl) Spruill of Chesapeake, VA; eight grandchildren, Ryan (Thaja) Giles of Newcastle, Erica (Josh) Phillips of Newcastle, Mason Giles of Newcastle, Joseph Jolley of Newcastle, Josh (Bethany) Jolley of Newcastle, Olivia (Hayden) Lloyd of Oklahoma City, Ethan Spruill of Chesapeake, VA, and Graham (Jessie) Spruill of Rochester, NY; a host of family and friends. Mary Anne had such a warm and loving personality and I was truly blessed to get to know her through my business career, which was greatly influenced by Bill. I am heartbroken for Bill and his family, but am comforted in the knowledge that Bill and Mary Anne will enjoy eternity together one day, never to be separated, ever again. I know everyone will miss this beautiful woman.

My mother, Edna Varey, managed Todd's Dress Shop when they shared retail space with Mary Ann's Merle Norman shop for several years. They were very good friends. My mother loved Mary Ann and thought of her often over the years. My mother passed away in 2019. Mary Ann was a very sweet & kind person!
