Dick Vrooman was my boss, my mentor and my friend. When I returned to the Oklahoma City Public Schools,I was assigned as Dick's assistant principal at Moon Middle School. Dick taught me to value all people, but most importantly, that the students that we served deserved our trust and respect. He was a "student's principal". I modeled my approach to school administration by keeping that belief uppermost in my mind. He was my Director when I became a high school principal and I never had a more loyal, supportive boss. He never looked to lay blame, but worked to help all of us in the trenches provide maximum educational opportunity to all students. He was my friend of many, many years and we have all lost a true champion of public education. Ron Maxfield
