Wanda L. Mucke
APEX, N.C. - Wanda Lee Mucke, 95, of Apex, previously Olean, N.Y., passed away Friday, April 16, 2021, at her daughter's home, after a long illness.
Born May 25, 1925, in Greene County, Pa., she was the daughter of John Polen and Winifred Turner Polen. She was married to John J. Mucke on Aug. 15, 1958, who predeceased her in 2008.
Wanda was a graduate of Bolivar (N.Y.) High School and later went on to cosmetology school. She practiced cosmetology her entire life in the Olean area and eventually owned her own business on North 11th Street in Olean.
Wanda was a member of St. Marys of the Angels Catholic Church in Olean, a member of the Lady Knights (K of C) organization and the Cootiettes women's auxiliary. She was a selfless person, always helping others. Later in life she also volunteered at the Bridge thrift store in Allegany, N.Y..
Baking, cooking and giving it away to friends and neighbors was a favorite pastime for Wanda. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, especially during the holidays, and had many stories to tell of holiday parties.
Wanda enjoyed traveling with her family and had many fond memories of trips together. The beach was her favorite place in the whole world and hardly a year went by that she did not get there for a visit. As she grew older, she became an avid game player and enjoyed cards, boardgames, bocci and corn hole.
Wanda is survived by her two children, Pamela (Michael) McNulty of Apex and John (Gina) Mucke of Olean; six grandchildren, Ashley (McNulty) Sullivan and Kendre McNulty of North Carolina, Olivia Mucke of Olean, Christine Latten of Portville, N.Y. and Todd Latten; and several great-grandchildren.
Along with her loving husband, Wanda was predeceased by a son, Michael Latten; a grandson, Patrick Latten; and 13 siblings, Byron Polen, Marjorie Polen, John Polen, Thomas Polen, Max Polen, Carl Polen, Ensil Polen, Donald Polen, Edmund Polen, Louise (Polen) Rutter and Bernice (Polen) Morris, Clarice Polen (Timme) and Turner Polen.
Due to the lingering COVID situation, a memorial service/celebration of life is being planned for a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Bridge Thrift Shop, 95 E. Main St., Allegany, NY 14706; the Arthritis Foundation (www.arthritis.org); the American Heart Association (www.heart.org); or Transitions LifeCare Hospice, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC. 27607 (www.transitionslifecare.org).

Such fond memories of growing up on 11th Street with the Mucke’s as our neighbor. She was so good to my mother and made her look beautiful every week.
Will always remember her kindness.

She was my neighbor on 11th and 24th Streets. She watched her granddaughter so my own daughter was also very close to Wanda. When we get to heaven and it smells like cookies, we know she’s still baking up a storm. Heaven gained a special Angel.

She was a good friend of my mom, Jean Kallenbach. I remember going with her to Wanda’s to get her hair done and wait for her in the shop, looking at magazines and playing with John and Gina’s toys. Had seen her at Bingo in Ischia last a number of years ago and she still remembered me. Was a very sweet lady. Prayers for her and her family.
