Dean Joseph Rief spent 89 glorious years on earth. He was born at home December 6th, 1931 in Lincoln Nebraska and joined eternal life February 7th, 2021 in Newport Beach, California. He is survived by the love of his life, Theresa Ann Rief, whom he enjoyed 65 years of marriage with. He is survived by their 5 children, Mark (and Lynne), Karen (and Art), Sheila (and Jim), Rita (and Dave), John (and Kimberly); 11 grandchildren Alicia, Brian, Megan, Amy, Sarah, Janelle, Alex, Kristina, Natalie, Christian, Brendon, 9 great grandchildren and his brother Jerry. He was proceeded in death by granddaughter Michelle and great grandson Austin.
After attending high school at Mt. Caramel, Dean enlisted in the Navy, where he served as a photographer in the Philippines. After the Navy he enrolled at USC and married Theresa aka "Terry". Dean worked and attended school for several years before deciding to open his own business out of his garage. Dean's work ethic pushed him through as he opened South Bay Butcher Supply, a still thriving business. The family and business all settled in Huntington Beach, California, still residing in the same home until his passing into eternal life. Dean was a lover of golf, margaritas and all the local favorite sports teams. He was beloved by all, he was kind and took an interest in all whom he met.
A funeral mass will be held February 23rd, 12:30pm at St. Bonaventure parish. It will be live streamed at www.stbonaventure.org The family has asked for donations to be made to Catholic Charities of Orange County ccoc.org in lieu of flowers.

He gave me my start at South Bay 34 years ago when I first moved out here from Ohio. Dean and his family were some of the nicest people I have ever met. I will remember that time always.
