Joanna was a friend and family member is so many ways. We shared many good times and holidays together.

My memories of Joanna will always include the good times we had at Carpinteria. Over the years Carpinteria became a favorite place to vacation with family and friends for Joanna and I. With Joanna we often took long, long walks on the beach looking for driftwood, shells or seaweed (so Joanna could make her famous Seaweed Soup). She really appreciated a big bonfire to sit around at camp. There was some competition among the campers over who could make the best salsa. I always thought hers was the best.

Another one of the fun things that originated with Joanna was our annual bike ride to San Diego. The first time it took us four days. We shopped and stopped to eat and it was great. Some family and friends met us along the way and cheered us on. We took Amtrak back to Fullerton. The next year we cut a day off our record and made it to San Diego in three days and stayed over in Old Town. That too was fun! The next year we made it in two days but it was a little harder than we remembered. That was the last time we rode that trip together.

Occasionally, even miscommunications had a bright side. One hot summer day she and I were going to get together to make her famous Jalapeño Jelly. The only thing is she went to my house and I went to hers. Upon coming home I found Joanna under our tree wondering where I was. The jalapeño jelly was great though!

She would give us every Christmas a jar of her delicious homemade preserves. She would add peppers from her garden which made the jelly a special treat. Miss you Joanna!

I will always remember her sense of humor and her way with nature. I remember her coming to my Halloween party with my mom, dressed as a stick of gum.

I will miss her pointing out all the rock formations and explaining their origins, the various types of clouds and weather, the edible plants, all the hiking, the game-playing, going to the beach, the laughter and good, old-fashioned family fun and togetherness!!! RIP I will love you forever!
