Harris, Kathryn "Kathy" It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kathryn "Kathy" Marie Harris. She died on July 24, 2020 from complications related to brain cancer. Kathy was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 13, 1952 to Mary (Grob) and Ralph Carlson. She came to California at the age of 2, living her first years on the Isthmus in Catalina. Her family then moved to Buena Park, CA. She graduated from Western High School in 1970. After graduating high school she went on to Cypress Community College where she earned her AA. It was shortly after starting college that she met and married the love of her life, Richard Leroy Harris. Kathy and Rick went on to become lifelong residents of Huntington Beach, where they raised their three children. After many years of raising her children, Kathy returned to the workforce, working in Human Resources at Westminster and Huntington Beach City School Districts. Kathy's life long center was her family and friends. Whether leading Girl Scouts, working to plan events at church or getting family together for a reunion, she was the glue that kept everyone together. She hosted many fantastic parties at her house where everyone knew the doors were always open! In her later years she and Rick travelled extensively making friends wherever they went. She was a person who made "home" wherever her spirit was! In her 2 year 8 month battle with brain cancer, she had to give up many parts of who she was, but she never gave up her graciousness and eternal optimism. She was so grateful for every visit and lunch with family and friends. Her bravery and love of life inspired all who knew her. She is survived by her three children Julie Tillmann (Andreas), Thomas Harris (Lacee) and Garrity Loughnane (Dennis). She is also survived by her siblings Ralph "Butch" Carlson, Margie "Dolly" Urich, and Bob Carlson. Her beloved grandchildren, Eli and Ansel Tillmann, Magnolia and Tilly Harris, and her brand new grandson Fletcher Loughnane were always at the center of her heart. But most importantly she is survived by countless members of her family, friends, and co-workers who were touched by her beautiful, adventurous, and generous spirit. She will be so greatly missed by all she touched! A memorial celebration for Kathy will be held at a later date, and it will be in true Kathy Harris style well planned and a big shabang!
