Thompson, Nina Christina
December 6, 1951 - April 14, 2019
As I sit here thinking and crying over my beautifull wife's life, and I ask God why??? Why her??? She was only 67 years old. Nina was a Stroke victim, and she would not let go of this life for almost 2 years. But she is in Heaven now with all her Family and friends and she is Holy. She comes from a strong Italian Family with a little German thrown in. Her Mother's family came from Sicily and her father was German/Italian.
Nina was born in Neptune, New Jersey. She was the youngest of three kids in her Family. They grew up on the east coast until 1956 when Nina was 5 years old and her father was transferred to Southern California. He was an Electronics Engineer and was just Super Smart. He worked for the Government after WW II, and was part of the Scientific Team that tested the Hydrogen Bomb in the South Pacific in the early 1950's. They moved to Carson, then Torrance then to Dana Point in 1960. He was working for a NASA subcontractor in Newport Beach. They were working on The Gemini and Apollo Space Missions.
Nina went to San Juan Elementary school from 1960 to 1963. She then graduated from San Clemente High School in the class of 1970. Her older brother Nick got her a Rag Tag 1955 V.W. bug when she got her driver's license. He was always her protector, and I always appreciated all he did for his little Sister, especially when I was over in Vietnam on Deployment.
She was always happy and such Beauty threw me for a loop. You see I was in the U.S. Navy, stationed aboard the "USS ALAMO LSD 33", Home ported at the Long Beach Naval Station, CA. Being a Capistrano Beach, CA Native, I graduated from S.C.H.S. in 1968. I never knew her. All my civilian school chums who beat the Draft and Vietnam, they commenced to, "SET ME UP," with different girls since they all had their own.
Nina was number "3". After our first blind date, while she was still in high school, that was it. There was no going back, I was head over heals in love. So was she. I have happily been engaged with her until her death on Palm Sunday. I miss her so...…...We were married on August 7, 1971 at our Little St. Edwards Catholic Church in Capistrano Beach.
God blessed us with two beautiful sons, but we lost two. We should have been four, so we just counted our blessings and have four beautiful grandchildren. In 1975, Nina's father passed away from a massive heart attack. The family all pitched in to help take care of Grandma Tina (Nigro). Nina then decided that she wanted to be a Capistrano Unified School District, School Bus Driver and trained to be a really great asset to the District for 35 years, retiring in 2009. She made so many friends that became like her second family. They all went everywhere together and a had a lot of fun over the years. They were all there for her always and in the end, just as she was there for all of them. They were all Special people I think. It takes "Some one Special" to drive a School Bus. Nina retired from C.U.S.D. in 2009. We bought a acre of land in Cal Pines and built a nice little custom Home for us. She just loved it up there in the Fresh Air and all the trees. We would go up there in early December and cut fresh Xmas Trees for the kids. We really had a kick going up there and helped build it. She would love to see the wildlife up there.
