Donald F. Daly
Jan. 10, 1933 - Oct. 15, 2020
Donald F. Daly of Lake Oswego passed away Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020, at the age of 87.
Don was born Jan. 10, 1933, in Morristown, N.J., to John and Sophie Daly. He grew up in Convent Station, N.J., and played bass in the band "The Skippers" in high school. He graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J., with a degree in mechanical engineering.
After working in New York City for several years, Don moved to Utah to work for Thiokol Chemical. He met his wife, Bennie Lausanne London, in Utah and they were married in 1963. The family lived in Colorado, The Bahamas and California before settling in Oregon in 1978.
Don loved to golf and was on the golf team in college. He loved skiing especially when he could go with his family. He found great joy in his family including his two golden retrievers, Maggie and Molly. He would often buy happy meals on the way home for his "girls." He was a baseball fan. After his beloved Brooklyn Dodgers moved out of New York, he became a lifelong Yankees fan and could often be found "watching" a baseball game with his eyes closed on his favorite chair in front of the TV. One of his favorite places to be was his farm in Midway, Ore., where he was often found puttering around his shop and was a gifted woodworker.
Don is survived by his wife, Bennie; sons, Steve (Dana), Dave, and Eric (Kelley); sister, Peggy Kidd; brother, Bob Daly; and seven grandchildren.
Don was a kind and gentle man who made everyone feel loved. He was a mentor to many and a great husband, father and grandfather to his family. He is missed and loved by all. The family is truly thankful for all the condolences received.
A private graveside service will be held Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020, and a memorial service will be scheduled later in order to respect COVID precautions.

Our deepest condolences to Bennie and the family on the passing of Don. He was a great man with great skills and a tender heart. His sphere of influence and guidance encompasses many and his legacy will continue for generations to come.

May he rest in peace and enjoy looking down on us: seeing the results of his mentorship and what they continue to create.

I owe much of what I know today from the leadership, patience, and smile of Don Daly. He will never leave my thoughts as the best part of working at IDC.

It was a real blessing to work with Don early in my career at IDC. His kind, gentle, thoughtful approach was one that I have tried to emulate during my career. I have always remembered Don telling me, "If someone isn't doing what I expect, then I haven't done a good job at making the expectations clear". This fundamentally shaped my behavior!
