Charles Edwin Kraft
Dec. 6, 1935 - June 12, 2019
Charles Edwin Kraft passed away peacefully on the morning of June 12, 2019 from complications due to leukemia.
He was born in Longview, Wash., and spent his early years in Bridal Veil, Ore., in the Columbia River Gorge near Multnomah Falls, where his father ran the lumber mill for the Kraft Foods company.
He attended Lewis & Clark College, where he met his wife Jacqueline Howard, and later served in the Navy on Guam and attended graduate school at the University of Oregon, receiving his Master's Degree in 1964. In 1966 he moved back to Portland with his family and taught history at the Sylvania Campus of Portland Community College until his retirement in 1994.
Charles loved studying history, tracing his family genealogy and traveling. His favorite destinations included Germany, Greece, Italy and Mexico, but he and Jackie had a special love for London and Britain. He was thrilled to complete a final trip to London and Scotland only days before his passing.
Charles is survived by his son, Kevin (wife Mary); sister, Lenanne Insanhart (husband Michael); brother, Gerry (wife Rebecca); and grandchildren, Andrew and Grace. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline; and his daughter, Shannon. All who knew him will miss him greatly.
His memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 13, 2019, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 4033 S.E. Woodstock, with reception to follow.
In honor of Charles the family is requesting donations to the Multnomah County Library, All Saints Episcopal Church, or The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society.
