Fred R. Stanwood
May 11, 1952 - May 21, 2021
On Friday, May 21, Fred Robert Stanwood, 69, of Damascus, passed away at Kaiser Sunnyside Hospital of a heart attack. He was surrounded by his wife and children with their love and support.
Fred was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. He was the youngest of four children born to Ludwig and Wilhelmina (Billie) Stanwood, and was raised with three siblings Judy, Linda and Tom. He graduated from David Douglas High School.
Growing up, he loved camping, fishing and building houses with his dad at McCalls Ranch in Halfway, OR. Fred worked with his Father-in-Law for a few years at Pierce Northwest Floors, where he learned the art of hard labor and craftsmanship before he transitioned into a successful career in the filter and hydraulic hose industry at Oil Filter Service Company.
Fred met the love of his life Patty in their high school English class. They got married on August 24, 1973, and were always seen walking hand in hand, and side by side. Together they raised two children, daughter Miranda and son Matthew. Together they enjoyed many family vacations at Walt Disney World and summers on the Oregon Coast. He also enjoyed going on cruises, cooking, golfing, fishing, spending time with his grandkids, and weekend liquor runs to Reno with their best friends. Through his travels he also gained a deep appreciation for old European castles, church and museum architecture.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Ludwig and Wilhelmina. He is survived by his wife, Patty; children, Miranda (Chuck) and Matthew (Marjorie); grandchildren, Dominic, Daniella, Samantha and Alexandra. His presence and love for sweets, roller coasters, concerts, collection of Disney watches, and of course, Beaver football and The Portland Trail Blazers will be deeply missed.
A viewing will be held from 4 - 8 p.m., Monday, June 7th at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at East Hill Foursquare Church. Fred will be laid to rest at Lincoln Memorial Park and Funeral Home. Visit to read the full obituary.
