JoAnne Powell
Feb. 1, 1943 - Oct. 4, 2020
Our world gained another Guardian Angel Oct. 4, 2020 with the passing of our Dear One, JoAnne Susan Powell (maiden name Pavlinac).
JoAnne grew up on a berry farm and then devoted 30 years as a math teacher. She was known as a "math" miracle worker, as she helped take the "hate" out of math for those that struggled.
Outside of work, JoAnne enjoyed tennis, biking, hiking and boating. She frequented her favorite vacation properties in PGA West in La Quinta and Bend. She was recognized for her families favorite Croatian dish, Sarma.
JoAnne's kindness and empathy extended beyond words. She was the first to help family in need. She helped provide housing, clothing and food to teenagers, elderly and homeless people who were without family support.
JoAnne is survived by her husband of 56 years, Walter Lee Powell; her daughters, Suzie and Lisa; grandchildren, Kira, Conner and Kimberly; and siblings, Dr. Ruth Ann Larson and Joe Pavlinac.
The family is having a private celebration of life at St. John's Cemetery, in Oregon City, Ore. Online guest book and video to be available at a later date.

I met Joanne in the 1st grade at St, Johns Catholic School. She was one of the smart ones. I also was bused out to the Pavlinac berry fields with my friend Marilyn Cashman. We were fired because we ate more berries than we picked for the Pavlinacs. We were rehired when we stopped eating all the berries. Lessoned learned. I am so sorry to hear of Joanne passing. She will always be remembered by me. My prayers are with the family.

I’ll miss her. Funny how you take for granted others and then they are gone. Wish I had said goodbye. She always welcomed me into the greater family with great meals and conversation full of life I cared for and about her and I have her in my treasured memory bank forever. Much love

JoAnne taught me so much in the short tens that I was blessed to have known her. She showed me love, she showed me her strength but most importantly she showed me how important family is. She basically took me in as one of her own and treated as such. I will forever cherish her & be greatful for her loving heart! To her surviving family - My heart aches with all of yours!
All of my love,

Joanne was a kind and gentle soul and will be forever missed. Her empathy towards her students, her family, and all human beings gives us all something to strive for during this particularly divided time. Joanne you were a rock for so many, it makes me smile to know you are up there with my dad, Grams, and Gramps cooking delicious sarma with so much laughter. Love you always.

I “inherited” JoAnne as a relative because her sister was my sister-in-law. What a wonderful person she was. She was smart, funny and fun to be around. Family gatherings were always more fun when JoAnn was there. She was very generous with her time and caring for others. I’m blessed to have known her for many years and wish her peace.

My sister was one of the most compassionate, kind loving woman. Not only did she help the underserved and under heard human beings but also all animals. Growing up she love to ride her horse and loved being out in nature. She will be dearly missed but we do need a few Angels on the other side only love sister Ruth Ann
