Michael O'Neill Obituary

Michael James O'Neill
Sept. 3, 1949 - June 9, 2018
Michael O'Neill passed away peacefully June 9, 2018 in Portland. He was born in Salina, Kan., to Frances (Chaffin) and Timothy O'Neill. The son of an Air Force Officer, Michael grew up in Southern California and Southwestern Idaho. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, after which he attended Boise State University. He made a career of working in print shops, and later as an accountant. Mike worked for Washington County for over 10 years, from which he retired in 2014. His passion was to make music all day and he possessed the gift of perfect pitch. He loved opera and traveling with family. He was environmentally and socially conscious. Mike had a brilliant and witty sense of humor for which he will be missed.
Michael will be remembered by his wife, Dai Noh Chek; and daughter, Mei Mei O'Neill; sister, Patricia O'Neill of Guerneville, Calif.; brother, Brian O'Neill of Springfield, Mo.; sister, Kathleen O'Neill and her husband, Steven Butler, both of Battle Ground, Wash.; as well as nephews, nieces and cousins.
A service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 9, 2018, at Willamette National Cemetery. His family suggests in lieu of flowers, remembrances be sent to the American Cancer Society or Portland Opera.

Psalm 23
The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
Psalm 23 NIV
Mike you will always be remembered as a nice colleague and friend in my life.

Dear Dai Noh and Mei Mei - it is with a very heavy heart that we offer our condolences to you both and to Mike's extended family. I still cannot believe that he is truly gone and our family will never again enjoy his company and shared times. It all seemed to happen so fast that none of us were really prepared for his passing - we will miss him greatly. Our hearts and prayers are with you and we will remember Mike fondly forever. Again, our sincerest condolences.

Dearest Dai Noah and Mei Mei, My heartfelt sympathy to you both. I treasure the 10+ years that I shared working with Michael at Washington County, and our mutual enduring love for music, playing piano, watching videos of Mei Mei's music recitals and choir performances, and his love for you both. Michael lives on in our memories and the gifts that he shared with each of us - his love of family, his desire to address the needs of vulnerable populations, his passion for music, his brilliant financial knowledge, and his witty sense of humor that always made me think twice.
