To the family of PFC Richard Dewater:
Please know that just as your loved one remains in your hearts and minds; his sacrifice, and that of your family, remains with the people he died defending. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for his bravery and selflessness, or the heartache we feel for your loss. God bless and keep you always.

Son, there is'nt a day that goes by without thinking of you.
I have often thought of my own sacrifices in my life, but they no longer have meaning.
You have given and gave up more in your short life then i ever could.
You turned into the man i never could be.
I am proud to be your dad, i love and miss you very much son

My Son... I gave you life, and the enemy took it away... My life was always for you and your brother. Others think they know how a Mother would feel to lose their own flesh and blood, but unless they were the ones to suffer the intense loss, they don't have clue... I'm so glad that you've let us know in many ways that you are always with me, Nicholas and Michael... You are always in our hearts and minds our SWEET ONE!!!!!...... We love and miss you so much.... Always and Forever... Your Mom

I thought of you today, but that is nothing new. I thought about you yesterday and days before that too. I think of you in silence, I often speak your name. All I have is memories and a picture in a frame. Your memory is a keepsake in which I'll never part. God has you in his keeping but I have you in my heart.

”Honor and Remember” - “Project Compassion” We love our Soldiers! We love our country and we cannot express enough love and compassion to the families of our fallen heroes. War does not discriminate – It breaks our hearts to see the faces of the fallen. We want to give this gift to the hero’s Mother, Father and/or spouse. We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization! Over 1,800 portraits have been completed and shipped to the parents and or spouse - at no cost as this is a gift from one American to another!
This is a gift! We have some wonderful sponsors who help with the costs, and only want you know that we care.
Contact us directly at or go to . If you have already had a portrait completed, we pray that you are enjoying the portrait and God Bless You.
Sincerely and Respectfully,
Kenna Larra

Rick, my beloved brother and friend. I can never understand the selflessness you exuded. I may never know what it means to sacrifice myself to a higher cause, to die for the freedom of others, in a war between two men. I will never know what it is to give so anonymously and so selflessly as you gave. I will never know the trials you endured or the longing you felt. But, what I do know, is that I am the luckiest sister in the world. You were my brother, you who gave your life for freedom, for a higher cause, who gave your life so selflessly after enduring hardship. I'm luckiest sister because you, my brother, my friend, gave your life, the ultimate gift, for my freedom, for my right to sit here and pray that on this Fourth of July, no other sister, brother, mother, father, wife, husband or friend need lose another loved one. My prayer may go unanswered, but you, are the answer to the prayers of the thousands who ask for freedom, and a safe place to lay there head at night. You are a hero, your a guardian angel. Thank You. Rest Peacefully Tonight.

Prayer For Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

To the Dewater family,

I know there are no words to say, except how sorry I am for your loss. May you hold Richards' memory in your heart and please remember he shall never be forgotten.

...For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed.

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

I couldn't even begin to imagine what your family is feeling right now. I never physically met Rick, but chatted online with him a couple times, and felt like i'd known him forever. He was one of those people that could make you laugh, even if you didn't want to. I feel very fortunate to have known him, even if for just a short time. Some people leave a mark, and he was surely one of them. Rick will live on in everyone that has ever known him, and will never be forgotten. Godspeed PFC DeWater, thank you for my freedom!

To the parents and family, I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many questions as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There is no right or wrong way to grieve it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. May God continue to heal you as He gives comfort to you today and for the rest of your life.

PFC Richard A. DeWater is and always will be an American Hero. To his family, please know that many will never forget his and your sacrifice. We are free because he chose to protect that freedom. And sadly, he gave his life for that cause as did my son in Iraq over a year ago. My heart aches with yours. The loss is unexplainable, the hurt nearly unbearable. In time the sharp sting will move toward the memories and pride we will carry for the rest of our lives. May God's blessings be upon all of your family during the days ahead.

I have heard so much about this warrior who gave his life for his country what I didnt know was how close to home he actually was. All of us think how this could never happen to anyone we know or out of thousands of men and women his chances are good but thats not right the truth is these men and women sign up and dedicate there lives to serve this country for all of us to lay down our heads at night and sleep peacefully in our beds. That is exactly what Pfc Dewater did on April 15 th he lost his life due to an ambush in afghanistan He was a great man devoted to doing what he loved to do and though I didnt know him personally I have chatted with his father and followed this story since it happened He was a brave and true warrior and America lost a great man! I just want to wish his family my Condolences and know matter what anyone can do or say nothing can take that pain away the pain of losing something so close to you it feels at times impossible to go on.

I am sorry for your loss and May God Bless You and your family in this time of greif!

Best wishes

God broke our hearts to prove to us HE ONLY TAKES THE BEST!
