A young freckled girl with lots of blonde curls wearing a ruffled swimsuit, laughing as natural as her surroundings. The beach where her family had a cottage is one of my first memories of Susan. I always loved that freckled skin and blonde hair. But even more, her wit and courage to be exactly who she was. Often we're not able to envision our own effect on someone else's life. Susan was a natural teacher and artist. I remember her as ever sprightly. The Irish Elfin perhaps? Years ago I shared a book with her about two little girls who had a fondness for elves and faeries. They'd supposedly taken photos of them with an old Brownie camera. I was very young and asked Susan if she thought it might be true. She didnt ask me....what did I think? She said...."dreams are whatever you want them to be. Some will come true." Thinking back, Susan wasnt that much older than I was, yet the wisdom stirring in those bright eyes had started budding. I'm sure she understood the impact she had on those little souls she taught every day. But I pray she did as well realize the minute she'd smile upon entering a room, it brightened another person's day. And when we'd get a hand drawn card with little ducklings! I could almost see Susan splashing in the Portland mist leading those baby ducks all in a row.
We form families for many reasons. But one that comes to mind is that there's someone to keep a chronology of each person's life. A statement or register of our years with family and friends. So when there is a gathering we can remember. Speak fondly and deliberately of...

Ms. Harrington or as you signed your letters to our family ... "SUZY STRONG," You created such a lasting impression on us, especially on Parker. We are so fortunate to have had you in our life. You changed education for him and appointed him "Dr. Turtle." He now forever signs every letter "Peace and Love" because of your influence.
We love you and will miss you.

Hi, Susan; I'm your next door, April Swan. I remember when you and your sister Nora moved in several years ago. My husband Jerry and I used to take a lot of walks around the neighborhood and we often stopped by your yard to look at your roses. One day you said we could take them to plant in our own yard. We promptly took them and they still look beautiful around our 18 other rose bushes we have in our backyard.

I also remember when you brought us a big plate full of cookies on that first holiday season in your new home!
I'll miss you, but I know you are going to a wonderful place with God.

Many blessings to you and to your family here on earth,

April Swan
