Just found out Claude about your passing, so sorry I didn't know sooner. You were a GREAT long time friend and I will miss you dearly.

On Sunday, August 6, 2017, I attended the Claude Hunter Jr. Celebration of Life Service held at 3:00 p.m. at the Downtown Baptist Church in Orlando, Florida.

The large sanctuary was almost completely filled with friends and family, including 15 to 20 close handball friends, including long time friends, Pete & Dottie Overeem, many of which with their Claude Hunter Tournament shirts. I was there, proudly wearing my 2012 Claude Hunter Tournament shirt.

At the front of the Sanctuary, near the podium, there was a large red display board, provided by the Orlando YMCA, describing Claude's life, with a great picture of Claude.

The Pastor and other speakers reviewed Claude's family, career, sports & spiritual life, describing what a quality person Claude was, and what an outstanding life he had lived. I learned a lot about Claude's life, I never knew.

Because Handball, and the Orlando YMCA, had played such a large part in Claude's life, Handball and the Orlando YMCA were discussed in detail.

At the rear of the Sanctuary, pictures of Claude's life and family, were displayed.

After the service, there was a reception for the family and friends, in the Reception Hall next door.

I knew Claude through Handball, and first met him the late 1970's, at the Daytona/Ormond Three Wall State Handball Championships, in Ormond Beach, Florida. In the years afterward, I saw and talked with him at handball tournaments, including many of the Orlando YMCA tournaments, but because of our age difference, I was always in different tournament events, so I don't believe I ever played him.

When I think about Claude, my first thought is; "What a really, really, really nice guy, he was." I distinctly remember, talking with him on several occasions, including the last time I saw him, which was at the 2015 Daytona/Ormond Three Wall State Handball Championships dinner, in Ormond Beach.

Claude, "With your friendly personality, and the Orlando YMCA Handball tournaments, you provided a great deal of happiness to a lot of people." "You were a person, I will always be proud to have known."
