Schmidt, Our father, Captain Raymond US Air Force retired, age 97, formerly of Clermont, took his final flight to his heavenly home on December 25, 2017. He was born August 12, 1920 to Jacob A. Schmidt and Anna J. Schmidt in Enid, OK where he grew up. He married Eva C. Barker (Katy) on September 7, 1941 and they shared nearly 65 years together before her passing on June, 22, 2006. Captain Schmidt proudly served his country for 25 years in the military and was a WWII veteran. When he retired from the Air Force in 1962, the family relocated from Salina, Kansas to the Orlando area where he lived until last year. He was also preceded in death by a daughter Kay Barrett Starr and her husband Paul. He leaves behind two sisters Dorothy Krimm of Raleigh, NC, Jean Grabowski of Phoenix, AZ, three daughters Barbara (Jon) Bell of Salina, KS, Jody (Bill) Cramer of Boca Raton, FL, Patti (David) Bock of Speedway, IN. God blessed the Schmidt extended family with 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Raymond served as elder in the Pine Hills Christian Church and later was instrumental in establishing the New Horizon Christian Church of Clermont, FL. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 5, 2018 at BECKER FUNERAL HOME with Philip Walter, family friend and former minister of New Horizon Christian Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Florida National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the funeral home. Flowers are welcome or memorial gifts may be directed to New Horizon Christian Church Building Fund, 1330 Winter Garden-Vineland Road, Winter Garden, FL 34787. Way back in 1977 when I was going to Bible College and Ray was working at Montgomery Wards in the drapery department.He bought me a set of tires for my pickup truck. We went to Pine Hills Christian Church together. He kind of treated me as his son. Tim Hart
