My grandmother B'ma was a part of my life for 33 yearsand up until a few days ago I had never really thought about the other 58 years she had before that. Of course, it seems obvious now, but all of the stories we heard about B'mas full life, most of those came from before I was even born.
For a small town girl from rural FL, she really took advantage of all the world has to offer. Now, I was too young to really know B'ma in her social butterfly days, but I got a small glimpse into that over the years. She told me stories of her trips to Europe and Africa with her best friendsthey called themselves the old biddiesshe showed me pictures of her in her 70s in Yakutat Alaska, proudly displaying her salmon catch in a fetching set of green rubber wadersand many more.
When I was in elementary school, I gave B'ma a wall-sized map of the world and a set of colored pins. We spent several evenings placing pins on the cities around the world B'ma had visited, with my mom chiming in when B'ma overlooked one. We stopped at around 50 before we even got to U.S. states.
It is hard sometimes to think back to all those times when B'ma would tell us her stories of her world travel. I hope those memories of B'ma on a camel at the Giza pyramids, or on a donkey descending down a rocky trail into the Grand Canyon, or cheering for me from the bleachers at a little league game, or perhaps staying out too late with her girlfriends on a back street in Parisit is those memories that I hope will settle in and remain in my heart when I think of B'ma. Because I think that those are the memories B'ma will return to when she looks back on her life well lived.
B'ma will be missed for sure, but I do think she is in a better place now. For those of you who are mourning her passing, just take your time and remember what B'ma would have said, Life is hard by the yardbut it's a cinch, by the inch. And then she would have hugged your neck very, very tightly.

B'ma , you had a wealth of wisdom that you so graciously shared with everyone. You will be missed by everyone, family and friends.
You will always be in my heart I miss you.

Bma, the matriarch of my family, the strong, tenacious, brilliant, and independent woman who kicked butt at bridge and traveled the world. Bma the woman who stared cancer - death itself - in the face many times and said, I dont care about statistics this, or months-to-live that, you cant beat me. And each time she was right.

While shes gone from this earth, she gave me strength and support and love which I will carry in my heart forever. I know you all carry her strength and support in your hearts too, because to know Bma was to share in her strength. And through all of us, in this way, Bma lives on.

I love you Bma. Thank you for the laughs. The fun. The love. The support. Thank you for all the speriences.

Such an inspirational woman. Calling you my grandmother for all of my 39 years on this planet has been an honor. You will be missed dearly. Love always, Andy
