Alyce MARKS Obituary

On Monday, May 28, 2018 Alyce Jeanne Marks passed away in her West Palm Beach home. At the age of 91, Jeanne was with her grandson, the clergy and trusted care givers as she moved on. Jeanne was by all accounts a self-made success story. Growing up in south New Jersey, daughter of Alice and Jack Dunker, she always had a passion for design. A graduate of the Philadelphia Museum of Industrial Arts and Temple University, she was the youngest member of the Board of Directors of the National Society of Interior Designers and the first from South Jersey. Post baccalaureate, she began a career in interior design that eventually led her to Palm Beach, FL. Early in her accomplished career, Jeanne served on the White House Committee, under the direction of First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, to furnish the White House "in an authentic and appropriate style". In 1964, Jeanne opened Carriage House Decorations, Inc., a furniture and interior design firm on Palm Beach Island, eventually relocating to the iconic Addison Mizner building located at 264 South County Road. Driven by her tireless passion for design, Jeanne led an incredibly successful career designing residences and commercial spaces all over the world. Along with her professional life, Jeanne was a dedicated mother to her only son Steven and a loving and adoring grandmother to her grandchildren Sam and Jennifer. Her love of life and commitment to excellence will stay with her family and friends as they live with her memory always. A small private ceremony will be held on Jeanne's behalf. In lieu of flowers, any donations can be made in Jeanne's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, by mailing your gift to Memorial and Honor Gifts, P.O. Box 1000, Dept.142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142. Please contact her son, Steven Marks with questions or remarks ([email protected]).
