MASTICS, George E. George E. Mastics, Esq., 86, passed away early Wednesday morning, October 31, 2018, surrounded by family at his home in Palm Beach, Florida. George was born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 27, 1931 to Dr. Elmer and Marion Mastics . He attended Culver Military Academy and Case-Western Reserve University, from which he received his B.A. and Law Degree and a Legislative Leadership Diploma from Bethany College. He served four terms in the Ohio House of Representatives, sponsoring over 100 bills that became law. George, his wife Carole and their five children relocated to Palm Beach in 1975 where he joined Montgomery, Lytal, Reiter, Denney & Searcy, later Searcy, Denney, Scarola, Barnhart & Shipley as a partner, shareholder and director. A successful trial attorney, George tried over 200 jury trials, winning many verdicts over $13 million. He was admitted to both the Florida and Ohio Bar and the Supreme Court of the United States. He served on many municipal committees and received accolades too numerous to list. After retiring from the practice of law, George was elected a Port of Palm Beach District Commissioner in 1996. He served as a commissioner for twenty years, spending six of those years as Chairman. George was an avid weightlifter, bodybuilder, boater, gardener, and lover of good Scotch. George is survived by his wife of sixty years Carole; five children, Karen Germain (Jerry), Anne Price, Kathleen Mastics, Marion "Mimi" Vaughan (Jefferson), and George E. Mastics, Jr. (Lauren); ten grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandson George Charles Kugler, and two brothers Elmer and William Mastics. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30AM on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at St. Edward's Church in Palm Beach. The family will receive friends in fellowship during a reception immediately following Mass. The interment will be held privately at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery, Royal Palm Beach. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Horizon Home Services, Dr. Jack Waterman and TrustBridge. My condolences to Aunt Carol and cousins. Reading Uncle George's obituary brought back a flood of memories. Our vacations at Culver Military Academy and Fort Myers were not only great fun: but, kept all the cousins close. A life well lived!

Sorry we didn't keep contact over the years. I certainly treasured our days of weightlifting over the Mastics garage at their Lake Shore home and Holman's gym. I went off to the Air Force and made it a career as a fighter pilot. George and I connected again when he sought my advice during his run for a Republican legislative seat in Ohio. Close race. At the time I was on my second career as Legislative Director for two Republican Members from New York in the House of Representatives. He and Carol have been in my prayers for years, even though we weren't communicating.
