I worked with Eddie at Morgan Keegan in Palm Beach, FL in the late 80's. He was a wonderful manager, but also a great friend. My condolences to his family and his Morgan Keegan family.

I enjoyed playing golf with Eddie at the Everglades Club. He was a very good golfer and fun to play with. He had a great smile and great many friends. He will be missed!! I send my condolences to his family!

Those Hoopeses are great people! I know this because I heard my parents often quote a man from Columbus, Ga. many years ago. He told my father, We have some Columbus friends who are moving to Athens. Be nice to them, because THEY ARE GREAT PEOPLE. But I know this from personal experience, too. Mr. Hoopes and the beautiful silver-haired Miss Ann were delightful! Always on the go, it seemed; always full of fun. Mrs. Hoopes did not talk down to us kids. The lady had good sense and treated us like we had some sense, too. Young people don't forget adults who treat them with kindness and in the right way. I only saw Eddie and Claude a few times but they seemed to have inherited all the good qualities their attractive parents had. My parents and Mr. and Mrs. Hoopes could always laugh about one episode. My mother said that once, for a couple of weeks, when she was parting from a friend, that person would say, I'll see you at Ann and Ed's Saturday night. My mother would just nod. This goodbye phrase came up more and more. All my parents' friends were saying, See you at the Hoopeses Saturday! Well, Mother went back and checked their mail. Nothing. Saturday afternoon arrived. Then Saturday evening. Then it was after 8pm. The phone rang. My mother said there was much revelry in the background. But it didn't drown out the strained voice of Ann Hoopes, who declared: Sarah, I just FORGOT YOU. Both women laughed. Then Mrs. Hoopes scolded my mother with Why didn't you call me to tell me I forgot you?!? The two couples could laugh about that for years. The four of them loved to laugh and they did a lot of it. I know Eddie was a very fine man. Naturally he was. He came from great people! My wife Kammy joins me in sending our sincere condolences.

I both served with Eddie on the Forrestal and we enjoyed playing golf at the Everglades Club. He and I had a great time together in the Navy and while playing golf (and he was a rules authority). Ill miss him and have fond memories of a wonderful human being. I wish his family well and Eddie, Rest In Peace!
