Fernando Moya Obituary

FERNANDO (FRED) MOYA With great sadness, the family announces the passing of Fred, a man well-loved. He was born Dec. 15, 1941 in Del Rio, Texas. Fred passed unexpectedly on May 13, 2015. The Moya's landed in Hemet, CA in 1958. Fred graduated from Hemet High in 1961 where he excelled in basketball and was an FFA president. He loved his country and was a proud Navy veteran having served 3 tours of duty in Vietnam aboard a destroyer, the USS Hull. For many years he was a member of the VFW, Winchester and Idyllwild posts. In 1966 he married Marylynn LeVier; together they had 3 children. He was a loving father. Fred gave back to his community: he belonged to the Jaycee's (past president), he founded The Hemet Sportsmen Club (providing sports equipment to schools), a reserve police officer with the Hemet P.D. and he served on the library board of trustees. Retiring after 25 years with G.T.E., Fred pursued his love of cooking- he operated his catering business aptly named, "Hello Texas", cooking all over including ranches in Montana and Utah. His annual parties were legendary at his "Rocky Top Ranch" with hundreds attending. There were annual trips to Calgary Stampede where he made many Canadian friends. Fred lived with his ex-wife and only grandchild for the last 5 ½ years, with his children close by. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Tennessee, and a nephew Randy Moya. Surviving are, Marylynn; children, Mark, Dean, and Neva; grandson Jordan Reiners; step-grandchildren, Christian and Savannah Terrell; siblings, Elva Coronado, Robert Moya, Ray (Patti) Moya, Sylvia Caudel, Virginia (Steve) Unland, Frank "Bro" (Susan) Moya, Arthur Moya, and David (Carol) Moya; many nieces, nephews, cousins also survive. A special thank you to Benita and Eric of Wescare. Heartfelt thanks to family and great friends for help and support including, Mark, Lisa, Dennis, Gail, his brothers, sisters, Jo, Peggy, Dr. Alma Gerona, and Linda, RN. Fred, with a huge smile, loved life. Right now he's cooking fajitas, tending the chickens and cheerin' on the Padres! A viewing will be on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, 4-8 PM at Miller-Jones Hemet Mortuary, with a service to take place on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Riverside National Cemetery at 1:00 PM. Refreshments and a gathering will be held at the Winchester VFW Hall also beginning at 1:00 PM, located at 28780 Whittier Ave. in Winchester.

Most of us, who met Fred as an adult, remember the occasion that we actually met the massive but gentle, Tex-Mex American patriot, Fred Moya. I do. I was introduced while Fred was on the job for GTE in 1972. I'm glad that Fred was still in the Hemet San Jacinto Jaycees, as it was and (and still is)a big part of my life, during my years of living in the San Jacinto Valley. Fred, Dean Gill, Terry Couture and I, share the common honor of being elected to the CA Jaycee Senate, for past exemplary service to the Jaycees and the community. Fred was first, though, and I greatly admire his leadership as well as his love of people.

Fred was a group of us, at RCC, who helped eachother adjust to the "big campus" of Riverside City College. He was a special friend for many years. Although we had not kept in touch, when we did meet there was never any hint of the years that had passed. Love to you Fred.
