JOHN TERENCE WILKIE 88, of Lake Elsinore, CA, died peacefully at his home 8-29-2014. John was born in London, England on 1-16-1926 to James Andrew and May Elizabeth. In WWII he served in the Navy aboard the USS Wickes, DD-578. After the war he became a United States citizen and married Catherine Halbert in Michigan. They moved to California where they raised 3 children and owned several businesses. In 1964 his family moved to Lake Elsinore. Dad and Mom loved living in the valley and being involed in their community. John tirelessly lobbied with State and Federal governments to help make Lake Elsinore and the surrounding communities more economically viable. He was instrumental in filling the lake and installing 3 wells to stabilize the water level. He also helped in getting I-15 routed through Lake Elsinore. John continued working for his community until he was 84 years old. John was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, in 2010. John is survived by his sons James (Lori), Steven (Arlene); daughter Rae; 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and his sister Margaret (Raymond Halbert). John's humor and infectious laughter will always be rememberd by family and friends. A memorial service will be held at his home on Oct. 11, 2014 at noon. The final resting place for John and Catherine will be in Riverside National Cemetery at a later date. Please remember John by making a memorial contribution in his name to your favorite charity.
