MARGARET ELIZABETH DANA BORN FEBRUARY 1, 1932 DIED JULY 23, 2014 Margaret Dana passed away after a brief illness. She spent her last days surrounded by friends, family, music, and a great deal of love. Born in Mayslick, Kentucky, she went to school in Hollywood, where her cultural interests blossomed. She earned her B.A. and Ph.D in English from UC Riverside and went on to inspire countless students as a tenured professor at California Baptist College in Riverside. After retiring to Alameda, she continued to read voraciously, take classes, attend opera and theater, and cherish the community at Grace North Church. She is survived by her daughter Cathy; sons Greg and Paul; grandson Maxfield, and granddaughter Shannon. Her wit, passion, and intelligence will be deeply missed.

Dr. Dana was my mentor and friend. When I was a student at CBC, I took every class she taught, whether I needed it or not. We traveled through Spain together on an educational tour, where she slipped me some money because she heard I was in need, but not until after the rest of the group bought tickets to a bull fight--she didn't want me to waste my money on that! She taught me that you should never stop seeking knowledge. She stood up for what was right, even at her own detriment. I loved her very much. She will never be forgotten.

Margaret will always be a shining light in my life. She inspired and challenged us all, showing us that our world was far more exciting than we could ever imagine. And, with her Greek New Testament in hand, she reminded me that nothing that could happen in our world was beyond the love and grace of God. She had no time for judging or condemnation, but rather counted to grace to lead us home. I admired her and she was my teacher, in China, in faculty meetings, in the classroom, and at her dinner table. I am richer and wiser because I know her. I know she has gone gladly to Jesus. And they have so much to discuss together.
