Marlin Filipek Obituary

MARLIN PETER FILIPEK
Age 80, of Corona, California, went into the Arms of Jesus on March 9, 2017. He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, grew up in Minneapolis and attended North High School where he met the love of his life, Dorothy (Dottie). Marlin was in the Air Force and later attended the University of Minnesota earning his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for Bridgestone/ Firestone Tire Co and retired after 33 years. Marlin was very actively involved in his church and community. In 1993, he was ordained a Deacon for the Diocese of San Bernardino and lived his true life calling. Marlin's legacy of love can be seen through his many church and community ministries - with a special place in his heart for Boy Scouts, Interfaith Council, Chaplain for the Corona Police Department, and ministering to inmates at CIW.
Continuing Marlin's legacy of love, he is survived by Dottie, his best friend and wife of 60 years, and his children in whom his spirit can be found: Joleen (Mark-deceased) Cicchinelli, Mike (Julie) Filipek, Cheryl (Jim) Rybicki, and Kim (James) Populorum; and special joy in his grandchildren: Sara, Ashley, Krysten, Allyson, Anna, Devin, Nate, and Spencer. Marlin was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, deacon, brother, uncle and friend. He had an incredible mind to fix and build anything. Marlin was a story teller. Please share your lifetime stories with others in his honor. His legacy will live on with the footprints found in hearts of all those he touched.
The family will receive friends Monday, March 20 at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, 8540 Weirick Rd., Corona, CA from 4:00 - 8:00 pm with a vigil at 7:00 pm. The Celebration of Life Mass will be at 10:00 am Tuesday, March 21 at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Corona with Bishop Gerald R. Barnes, Celebrant. Burial immediately following at Crestlawn.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Marlin's name to the St. Mary Magdalene Building Fund, TIP or Corona Regional Hospice.

My deepest condolences go out to Dottie and the family.

I met Deacon Marlin in 1996 when I became a parishioner at St. Mary Magdalene. He baptized my daughter Janelle in 1997 (she is now 20 years old), and was a great friend from 1996 to present. He touched me and my families lives in many ways. Every Sunday he would go out of his way to give me a hug at mass. I felt a special bond when I saw Deacon because he reminded me of my father (who recently passed away). In April 2007, he came to my home and renewed my parents' wedding vows on their 50 wedding anniversary celebration. Thank you, Deacon! I will me seeing your smiling face.

I am so grateful to have had Deacon Marlin in my life! May you rest in peace with our Lord, and God bless you and your family.
