SHIRLEY MAE MAC ARTHUR June 15, 1926 - November 26, 2015 Shirley Mae MacArthur was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 15, 1926. She was the daughter of Arthur Jennings Rost, a projectionist for MGM Studios and Aileen Powels Rost. Shirley was the wife of Dr. M. Hebbard MacArthur; mother of David Arthur Eccles; Linda MacArthur Ebie; Laurie MacArthur Cook and Riverside City Councilmember Christopher Hebbard MacArthur. She was predeceased by her sister, Barbara Burum. She was the grandmother of nine and great grandmother of five. Shirley moved to California with her family soon after her birth, where she lived the remainder of her life. Shirley moved with her family to Riverside in 1963 and lived in the same house on Adams St., on a 10 acre orange grove until shortly before her death. She managed her husband's dental office for over 20 years. Shirley was very involved with her children's activities at school from PTA to 4-H to youth sports. She served her community as past President of the Assistance League of Riverside and volunteered for many years at Operation School Bell. She also served as President of the Riverside Chapter of P.E.O.; and volunteered for many other Charities. Shirley had an uncommon knack for purchasing and managing real estate and possessed a great talent for interior design. She will be remembered for her infectious laugh, pleasant smile and loyalty to her family and friends. Shirley was a voracious reader, who loved the company of her friends at social events, volunteering for her community, playing bridge, and traveling. She was a woman who set the bar high for performance. She was a perfectionist who expected the best out of her children and her community.
