Dr. Edward C. Shore, 86 of Lewistown, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at the William Penn Nursing Home.
Born May 18, 1931 at F.W. Black Hospital in Lewistown, he was the son of the late George and Claribel (Husted) Shore of Lewistown.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Nancy (Switzer) Shore of Lewistown and three children, his son Gregory of Williamsport; daughter, Alison Shore Lopez and husband Steven of Pasadena, CA and son Casey and wife Kori of Camp Hill; his granddaughter, Caroline F. Lopez and two grandsons, Peyton G. and Austin W. Shore.
He was a graduate of Lewistown High School , Class of 1949. He attended Susquehanna University and graduated from Temple University School of Dentistry in 1960. Following graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania, he was a practicing dentist in Albuquerque, New Mexico and in Lewistown until his retirement in late 1996.
He was a Methodist by faith.
He was a longtime member of the Lewistown Country Club and a past president. He was past president of the Mifflin-Juniata Dental Society and a lifetime member of the Penna. Dental Society as well as the American Dental Society. He was also a member and past president of the Mifflin County School Board.
He was a member of the Logan Guard Post 90 of the American Legion; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1349 and B.P.O. Elks Club #663, all of Lewistown.
Dr. Shore was a 4 year U.S. Navy Veteran in the Korean Conflict, serving aboard the U.S.S. Northampton CLC-1 from 1951 to 1954.
Earlier in life, Dr. Shore was an avid stamp collector and lifetime member of the American Philatelic Society. Later his interest turned to collecting pieces of heisey glassware; later, the grandchildren occupied his attention.
There will be a time of visitation with the family on Monday December 11, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at The Barr Funeral Home Inc. and Crematory, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are respectfully encouraged to William Penn Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, 163 Summit Drive, Lewistown PA 17044.
