Myrtle E. "Merti" George, 92, of Mechanicsburg, PA, formerly of Marysville, PA, transitioned from an earthly angel to a heavenly angel on Saturday, September 12, 2020. Myrtle was born in Millersburg, PA on September 19, 1927. She was preceded in death by her parents Katie E. (Klinger) and Joseph E. Koppenhaver, as well as one sister Miriam and three brothers, Harold, Homer and Earl. She was the widow of Robert C. George, a retired Harrisburg City Police Officer. She is survived by a daughter Marcie George Boyer (partner Thomas S. Devlin), a Granddaughter, E. Ashley Boyer Noll (Shawn) and her two beloved Great grandsons, Tyler and Drew. She also leaves to treasure her memory numerous nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. Family and friends were her greatest joy in life. She was a graduate of the former William Penn High School in Harrisburg, PA, the Class of 1945. She retired as executive secretary for AMP, Inc., Harrisburg, PA. Following retirement she worked as a tour guide for Rohrer Bus Tours, Duncannon. She loved traveling and always said "this is the perfect job for me, I get to meet wonderful people and see the country". She was a former member of Eastern Star, Harrisburg, the Red Hat Society, a past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the F.O.P., Harrisburg and a 50+ year member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Marysville. She loved gardening and was always happy to share her flowers, vegetables and a word of advise on how to make your garden grow. Until she was no longer able you could find her in the garden most days. If not in the garden she could be found having lunch or shopping with her friend Sarah. She had strong faith and it carried her through the last several years of her disease. She loved singing praise songs and even after she could no longer remember the words she would hum and tap her foot. A viewing will be held from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 noon on Thursday, September 17, 2020 in the Bethel United Methodist Church, Griers Point Road, Marysville, followed by a graveside services at 12:15 P.M. in Griers Point Cemetery. Please observe Covid precaution standards by wearing a mask and social distancing. Above all she loved children, she loved seeing them happy and teaching them about God. She sponsored several Navajo children over the past 15 years and always dreamed of meeting them. In lieu of flowers, I know she would have greatly appreciated a memorial contribution to Indian Mobile Mission, Inc., P.O. Box 838, Snowflake, AZ 85937 so that they may continue teaching and caring for the children. A special thank you to Claremont Nursing and Rehab Center and Hospice of Central PA for the excellent care and love she was shown. SHALONIS -- MARYSVILLE www.pennlive.com/obits
