With profound sadness we announce that Ruth Ann Linn, of Newport, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2020. Born to the late Roy S. and Viola Morgan, she was in her 84th year. Ruth Ann lived a full life thru devotion to her family, friends and community. For over 25 years she spent her days distributing food to home-bound elderly, promoting arts and crafts and arranging activities for seniors as the Director of the Newport Sr. Center. Older family members recollect spending time there delivering meals on wheels, quilting, playing cards and checkers with the seniors. After retiring from this position she provided daycare in her home. Those children often referred to her as Grandma. Ruth Ann was community oriented. She was instrumental in the development of the East Newport playground in the 1970s. She was a 4-H and Girl Scout leader. Numerous hours were spent volunteering for the Newport Fire Company Auxiliary were she was a past president. She believed in preserving the history of Newport and was involved in the Sesquicentennial celebration and numerous other community projects. She supported the revitalization of the Billy Cox field by planting "Grandmas Playground Project". She attended the Newport First Church of God. In her down time, she was an avid sports fan and loved going to the beach, drinking ice tea and spending time in the sunshine. Every holiday it was mandatory to decorate the house and porch so that the town kids could enjoy her displays. Her kindness and generosity made an impact on this world. She will be remembered for her smile, laughter, eye rolls and sense of humor. Ruth Ann is survived by her husband Charles Richard Linn; son, Steven Carl (Bobbi Sue Huss); daughters, Carol Rowe (Wilbur), Tami Halstead (Gerald), Kristie Gantt (Jonathan); step son, Dale Linn (Amy); step daughters, Kathy Ward (William) and Tammy Linn; 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son, Douglas Carl, daughter Susan Carl, step son Scott Linn and brother, William R. Morgan. We will always carry your memory in our hearts. A Memorial Celebration of Life service will be scheduled for a later date due to the Covid-19 Health Crisis. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Newport Fire Co, 301 Mulberry Street, Newport, PA 17074. Arrangements by the David Myers Funeral Home, Newport. David M.
