Sara Verti Obituary

Sara died unexpectedly on Monday, August 20, 2018, at her new residence in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania. She was born in Harrisburg on June 17, 1979, to Louise and John Havas. Sara graduated from Cumberland Valley H.S., where she played the cello in the Orchestra and was a member of the C.V. String Quartet. Sara was a member of some great C.V. soccer, swim and cross country teams. She enjoyed running and swimming, completed a marathon, and competed in numerous tri-athlete events.
Sara graduated from Penn State with Distinction, with dual majors of International Studies (Spanish) and English, and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She was President of the Pre-Law Society and participated in Student Government activities. She graduated from Villanova Law School, and became a member of the Pennsylvania Bar. Sara worked for the past 18 months for Drucker Diagnostics, a medical device manufacturer, as an international regulations specialist. She greatly appreciated her co-workers there.
Sara was awesome in so many ways. She enjoyed the little things, like growing tomatoes from the seeds of the prior year's crop. She was a real foodie, and a wonderful cook. But most of all she cherished the time with her beloved 8 year old son, Leo, who she read to almost every night.
Throughout her life Sara pursued helping the less fortunate. She volunteered a summer in Malta assisting Africans emigrating to Europe, and assisted immigrants here seeking political asylum. She was a champion of many environmental causes. As a last act of kindness, Sara donated her organs in the hope that others' lives would be improved.
During the last couple of years Sara suffered from depression. She is yet another testament that, like cancer and other physiological illnesses, emotional maladies can also be tragic.
Sara is survived by Leo, who was the center and joy of her too short life, her parents, Louise and John Havas, a sister, Jeanne McNally and husband, Michael, and nephew Seamus and niece Mairead, a brother, John Z. Havas, and loving aunts, uncles and cousins spread from Hawaii to New Jersey.
Sara's family would like to express thanks to so many friends who have extended their prayers, kindness and well wishes. A private gathering has been held and a private service is planned. In lieu of flowers, do one extra kind deed. Sara would like that. www.pennlive.com/obits

I am so sorry to learn of Sara's passing. I played with her in the Pittsburgh Mandolin Orchestra, and was looking forward to her move to Bridgeville so that we could reconnect and play together again. She was a gifted musician and a kind soul, and we will all miss her terribly.

In elementary school Sara and Kari were BFF's. They even started cello together. And if Sara wasn't at our house, Kari was at hers. Looked like sisters: same sparkling eyes, ear to ear grin, same hairdo, same gawky little girls. We would have adopted her in a heartbeat! So much joy and laughter: wading in the creek looking for sunken treasures; surprise and delight and peals of laughter to discover that minnows like to nibble shins; or the time they were playing soccer and Sara went to do a header and instead did a face-er! Fell down laughing! "Do it again, Sara!" Or the time Sara ran willy nilly into the screen door. Fell down laughing and laughing. She said later it was done by a runaway rhino, and from the dents in the screen - I believed her! Or the two running through the upper meadow dashing between the trees laughing and screaming chasing each other with abandon and just full of the joy of being. Or when we danced a circle polka and I tried to teach her the words to the Schnitzelbank song! Ach du lieber, liebchen! So much joy and laughter! And so many wonderful photos! Thank you, little jewel! She was brilliant, but with a great gift comes a great price. This I know. So precious gelfling Sara, gambol and laugh through the fields of heaven. God and his angels will play and laugh with you too.

This is heartbreaking. From someone who has and will always deal with the stigma and shame of depression... it just shouldn't be that way anymore. She was quite a light & caring & giving from knowing her from such a young age.... whooo.... I'm so sorry she was in such a dark place that it was too much... the world is a sadder place without a person like Sara

I am so shocked!! What an absolutely beautiful young Lady(inside and out), a heart of pure gold. She did so much for others, especially immigrants, that I urge EVERYONE to read the full obituary, and see ALL that she accomplished in her much to short life. She had so much talent, and even at Cumberland Valley High School, she was loved. My heart goes out to John and Louise, her wonderful parents, her fine brother, John, her husband, Michael, and her precious son, Leo. Sara, your legacy of love for others will live on in the hearts and minds of all those who knew Sara.
