Roy Lamar Johnson
1940-2017
Roy Lamar Johnson passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 08, 2017 with his loved ones by his side. He was 77 years old. Born May 4, 1940 in Baker, Florida, son of Gentry Johnson and Evelyn (Brunson) Johnson. He grew up in Milton, Florida. He graduated from Milton High School in 1960.
Lamar was a great man. He was a kindhearted and thoughtful no-nonsense man. His family and friends were always first and foremost. Lamar's pastimes included fishing with his family and golfing with friends. He was an avid bowler for many years. He won multiple awards and even bowled a perfect 300! He loved going on weekend motorcycle rides with his friends. He appreciated watching NASCAR races, football games and good old western movies. He was a devoted member of Nelson Mechanical/ Nelson Plumbing's staff for over 40 years. He considered the Nelsons and co-workers part of his extended family.
Lamar is survived by his loving wife and soulmate of 32 years, Elizabeth (DuBose) Johnson; sister Gwendolyn Moore; his children Julia Mathis, David (Lynn) Johnson, Angela Pitts and Richard (Maria) Pitts. He is further survived by grandchildren Raven, Robin (Joey), Eric, Ciara and Zoe; great-grandchildren Tyler, Taylor and Wyatt; brother-in-law Rudy DuBose, sisters-in-law Trisha DuBose (Rip Holt), Barbara Wiggins and Yvonne Johnson; and best friend since High School, Pete Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Orlando "Jack" Johnson.
The family is thankful for the prayers, visits and acts of kindness received during this difficult time. Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home, 1985 West Nine Mile Road, Pensacola, FL, immediately followed by a memorial service to be held in Lamar's honor.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Lamar will be missed by so many people. He was a good man. Lamar and I worked together in the early 80's at Nelson Mechanical. This is where he met the love of his live - his wife Liz my best friend. I love you Lamar but I know I will see you again.
