Pat, Cathi, Beth, Patti, Mike, Bill, and Jim; please accept the condolences of the entire membership of the Atlantic Wildfowl Heritage Museum. Herb will be sorely missed by everyone. May God grant you peace in the knowledge that Herb is with our Lord and that he is serving him to best of his ability. May God also grant you strength to carry on.

While the Herb we knew during his life will be sorely missed, at the same time we are all enriched because he was here. We will be encouraged to do our best all the time, to do what we know is the right thing all the time, and to be kind to each other all the time. Because that's what Herb taught us just by being Herb.

I believe I have known Herb as long as anybody as we grew up in Merrimac Park in Norfolk in the 1940's. At that time it was Navy housing. Following WWII my father became Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 41 and Herb was one of his scouts. My father was a "whittler". Carving was for roast beef. He taught Herb how to whittle, and as everyone knows Herb was a champion. Herb and I over the years would cross paths and it was always a happy reunion. Herb gave me one of his duck tie pins many years ago. I don't have to look for it because it stays on the top of my dresser where I see it every day.
