Ralph C. Johnson
BRADFORD - Ralph C. Johnson, 97, of East Peoria, formerly of Bradford, passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2018, at 11 p.m. at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria.
Ralph was born on August 18, 1921, in Corbin, Kentucky, to Newton and Rannie (Wilson) Johnson. He married Inez F. (Tuller) Johnson on April 14, 1948, in Corbin, Kentucky. She preceded him in death on March 29, 2012, in Peoria.
Surviving Ralph are two daughters, Susan Rickenbaugh Sublette of Columbus, IN, and Alice (Jim) Bremner of Washington, IL; one son, Harry (Diane) Johnson of Peoria; nephew/son, John (Paula) Eberly of Colleyville, TX; six grandchildren, John and James Bremner, both of Marietta, GA, Kelli Owens of Peoria, Marci Johnson of West Peoria, Chris (Andrea) Eberly of Alpharetta, GA, and Andrea Eberly of Tewksbury, MA; three great-grandchildren, Teagan and Camille Owens and Kendall Eberly; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, four sisters and two son-in-laws, Blaine Rickenbaugh and Donald Sublette.
Trained as a newspaper printer, Ralph worked at the Corbin Times in Corbin, KY, after completing linotype school. After moving to Illinois, he worked for newspapers in LaSalle-Peru, Aurora, Springfield and Peoria. He retired from the Peoria Journal Star after working 30 years.
The family would like to extend heart-felt thanks for the care he received while a resident at Riverview Retirement Center. While in independent living, he ultimately received care from Spoon River Home Health Staff, and also nurses, Rosie Cole and Karen McKenzie from Staff of Life Home Care. He later transitioned to the assisted living unit at Riverview and the family appreciates the care and time the staff there gave to him.
Ralph was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bradford, where a funeral will be on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Lyall Sutton will officiate. Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church in Edwards, and an additional visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at the First Baptist Church in Bradford. Burial will be in Osceola Grove Cemetery in rural Bradford.
