Richard told me the best story once that I never forgot. He was bandmaster and the Kempsey District Silver Band were playing at one of the nursing homes in Kempsey. After a few pieces, Richard asked the gathered audience if they had any requests. An older lady at the back called out, but he couldn't hear her. One of the nurses present walked back to her to hear what she wanted, "A cup of tea please" ... the nurse was a little exasperated with the lady, but Richard had a grin over it. He could always see the funny side of things. Richard was unfailingly kind and, despite his talents and accomplishments, he was a humble and humane individual for all his days.

I will forever cherish the time we spent with you at Xmas camping at hat head and you taking your youngest granddaughter over to see the bunny hops (kangaroos). For ever in my heart. RIP
