Booker T. Washington, 84 years of Gary, Indiana made his transition from earth to glory on September 5, 2017. He was born to parents Charlie and Adella Washington in Morgansville, AL on September 23, 1932. After retiring from U.S. Steel after 30 years of service, he spent the remainder of his years on this earth working with his hands, tools and cars, which were his passion. He was a blessing to so many and will forever be remembered for his kindness, generosity, work ethic and his love of God. You could not be in his presence for and extended period of time and not know that he truly loved the Lord. Daddy, Although we're missing you right now, we rejoice that you exchanged this life for Heaven's paradise¿no pain, no sorrow and where you'll never grow old. Booker leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Denise Washington and Marilyn (Bernard) Carter of Gary, IN; 11 grandchildren Torrey English, Travanda (Antoine) Williams, Aaron (Raquel) Washington, Frederick Washington, Taylor Washington, Troy, Natalie, Megan, Sydney, Lauryn and Adam Carter. 3 great-grandchildren Dante, Imoni and Tywon Williams; Sister Willa Mae Bennett of Jackson, MI; Special and supportive friend of many years Henrietta Murphy and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was preceded in death by daughter Natalie English, son Frederick Washington, former spouse Martha Washington, parents Charlie and Adella Washington, brothers James Washington and Frank Washington, sisters Cora Taylor and Charlene McGlothin. Visitation Thursday, September 14, 2017 from 12 to 8:00 p.m. Family hours from 6 to 8:00 p.m. at the Guy & Allen Chapel, 2959 W. 11th Ave. Gary, IN 46404. Funeral services Friday September 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. New Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 1727 W. 15th Ave. Gary, IN 46404.
