Charles A. Brown, Sr. of Gary, IN, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2015, at St. Anthony Hospice Center. He was born July 26, 1929, to Amos and Ladie B. Brown, in Hayti, MO. He was raised by his aunt and uncle, Jesse and Birda Durden. After moving to Gary, IN, he united with the Jerusalem Baptist Church. He later joined the Galilee Baptist Church where he served faithfully until his health failed. He was a member of the Adult Choir and of the United Male Chorus of Gary and the Calumet Regions. He retired in 1992 from USS with 45 years of service. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, uncle and aunt; son, Charles, Jr.; daughter, Joyce Brown; grandsons, Dameon Ross and Anthony Brown, Jr.: great grandson, Jason Lee; brother, Hollis Tatum and sister, Maxine Coleman. He is survived by his wife, Irma; three sons, Gregory, Oliver, and Anthony (Lynette) all of Gary, IN; two daughters, Janyce Brown of Gary, IN, and Teresa (Eddie) Rogers of St. Paul, MN; sister, Lattie Miles of Florida; brother-in-law, Thomas Coleman of Gary, IN; sister-in-law, Carolyn Tatum of Chandler, AZ; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Family Hour will be July 12, 2015, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Guy and Allen Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 13, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at the Galilee Baptist Church, 1548 Madison St., Gary, IN., Pastor Charles M. Morgan, officiating. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery. Services entrusted to Guy & Allen Funeral Directors, Inc.
