Vincent Bressers Obituary

Vincent J. Bressers

Vincent Bressers, age 88, of Appleton, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2013 at the Appleton Medical Center with family at his side. He was born on March 9, 1925 in Little Chute, the son of the late Martin and Anna (Van Eperen) Bressers. On January 15, 1949, Vincent married the love of his life, Lois Hanstedt at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Appleton. He served his country during WWII in the Merchant Marine. Vincent was a member of the Jacob Coppus Post 258 of the American Legion in Little Chute, charter member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Appleton, and the Fox Valley Golf Club in Kaukauna. He began his employment at Tuttle Press in Appleton, and retired in 1987 after 40 years with George Banta Printing in Menasha. Vincent and Lois enjoyed the couple's league at Sabre Lanes, and over 23 years of Florida vacations together. His family was very important to him, and he looked forward to the family vacations at Roberts Lake. They were Green Bay Packer ticket holders for over 40 years. He loved being around people, and was always ready with his one liners.

Vincent is survived by his loving wife of 64 years: Lois Bressers; five children: James (Betty) Bressers, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Mark (Diana) Bressers, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Nancy (Sam) Edwards, Appleton; Diane Hoks, Appleton; and Sandy Bressers, Plainfield, Illinois; thirteen grandchildren: Matthew (Chelsa) Bressers and Michael (Mandy) Bressers; Alan (fiancé Jen) Bressers, Scott Bressers, and Cathy Bressers; Jason (Leah) Islinger, Kelly (Grant) Pelky, and Jeremy Edwards; Michael Hoks, Jr., Adam Hoks, and Jennifer Hoks; Taylor Weyenberg and Cassie Weyenberg; nine great-grandchildren: Ayden, Hayleigh, Lucas, Avery, Claire, Grant, Alizabeth, Gideon and Nehemiah. He is further survived by three sisters-in-law: Mary Lou Bressers, Little Chute; Verna Bressers, Milwaukee; and little Mary Bressers, Milwaukee; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Vincent was preceded in death by his brothers: Theodore, Joseph, and Harold Bressers; and sisters: Rosie (Milt) Teske, and Judy (Richard) Grace.

The funeral liturgy for Vincent will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 27, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2331 E. Lourdes Drive in Appleton. Fr. Donald Zuleger will be officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated for the Old Glory Honor Flight in his name. "Death leaves a heart ache that no one can heal, love leaves a memory that no one can steal"- found on a headstone in Irleland. I know heaven will be a lot more humorous now that Vince has joined my father, Tom Lowe! I can hear Vince's unique laugh - I can only smile knowing those two are now together. I wish I could have made it to the service and pay back a bet he made with my dad. At my dads service he threw a buck in the casket and said you win Tom, but now we alll lose a great guy! Vince was in the credit union years ago when we handed out calendars and I jotted down my dads bday and Vince surprised my dad by sending a card, my dad was so tickled! Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Sad to hear of this news. Uncle Vince was truly one of the old standerd's, always a joke to tell, always a smile. My dad, Dick Grace, always said uncle Vince remained his friend through the good times and bad times. He was truly one of a kind on the face of this earth. He will be missed by all who got to know him.

IN LIFE MANY PEOPLE CROSS YOUR PATH,BUT ONLY A FEW REALLY STICK WITH YOU. VINCE WAS ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE WITH LOIS WHO I WILL NEVER FORGET. I'M SURE VINCE NEVER KNEW HOW MUCH I APPRECIATED HIS FRIENDSHIP. I WAS FORTUNATE TO CALL HIM A FRIEND. I WATCHED AND LEARNED FROM HIM HOW TO TREAT PEOPLE. FROM HIS CO-WORKERS AT BANTA'S, HIS AND LOIS'S FRIENDS AND EVEN THEIR CHILDREN. VINCE BRESSERS WAS A KIND AND LOVING MAN . I HAVE NOT SEEN VINCE AND LOIS SINCE 1981, BUT I CAN SEE THEM TODAY AS IF IT WAS YESTERDAY, A WONDERFUL HUSBAND AND WIFE TEAM IN LIFE. I WAS DEEPLY SADDEN TO LEARN OF VINCE LEAVING US AND TO LOIS AND FAMILY I'M SURE YOU KNOW HOW LUCKY YOU WERE TO HAVE HIM AS A HUSBAND AND FATHER. HE WAS REALLY A SPECIAL MAN. I WILL NEVER FORGET HIM, AS THAT IS THE WAY WE HONOR HIS LIFE.

I am so sorry to hear this news of Uncle Vince. I know he was really my "Great" Uncle and I have such fond memories of him! The Bressers family reunions in Little Chute and the annual Christmas party are favorite times of my childhood. He always made me laugh and I loved how he made my Grandma (Rose) laugh. Great times! My sympathies to the family.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone during this difficult time. I was so fortunate to grow up living next door to Vince. He is such a wonderful, kind, and caring man. He also sure could carry a tune! I would always love to hear him singing outside. You will be missed!

Vince will truly be missed. We first met Vinny and Lois as new members at Fox Valley. Lois graciously played with me and Vince would be right in front or behind us. He'd always tell us not to hit into them when he was in front. He loved to tell jokes and the love he showed for Lois was inspiring.

Vince is my father-in-law. Over the years he became more like a father to me and eventually he became one of my best friends. I loved this man. I will miss him dearly. I will miss going to Packers and Brewers games with him and just getting together to have a few beers occasionally. We had so many rich conversations over the past few years. He really trusted me and relied on me for so many different things and that meant so much to me.
We'll take good care of Mom Vince. God bless you!!!

I lived next to Vincent Bressers for over 20 years. Although I never followed the Milwaukee Brewers I listened to many of their games from my kitchen window, which, opened to Vincent's driveway and garage. Bob Uecker would be giving a play by play chronicle from that garage every game day out of an old antiquated tube radio. After manicuring his beautiful lawn, Vince would sit in the shade under that tall standing old silver maple tree he planted himself, sipping on a Manhattan and listening to the game. Many of times I too would sit there along side of him as he threatened to cut that dirty old tree down. He would tell me tall tailed stories of the past that made us both laugh. Most of the time though I could sense he was passing the time away waiting for his sweetheart to come home from JC Penny's where she worked part-time. The two of them were inseparable.

I have since moved away from there but to my knowledge that tree is still there. It's just weeping more then usual today.

My deepest sympathy to you Lois and your loving family

Being the child of this man was the greatest gift I could have been given. His watchful eye every time I turned down the wrong path, his infamous "way" of guiding me back home, his loving, affectionate words when I needed them the most. His biggest impact on my life was showing me what real love and commitment was by watching his love for my mother. Everyday in this journey without him will be bittersweet, knowing that his words of encouragement will be just a memory, but knowing that he is with the Lord, and that I will see him again. Anyone who knows him, smile when you think of him and remember his passion for letting everyone he met, his knowledge of the location of lost class rings :)I Love You Dad! I will see you soon!

Vince was one of the rare 'larger than life' charecters you seldom have the chance to meet. Vince had a positive influence on those around him, always ready with a joke and his ever present smile. Vince was an usher mentor to our son Drake at St. Bernadette Church.
We were so very glad Vince was able to visit the WWII Memorial with the Old Glory Honor Flight. It was wonderful to see Vince get the peace he always deserved.
Thank you for being part of our lives.
