Dr. Arthur D. Smith
July 17, 1929 - April 23, 2018
Dr. Arthur D. Smith, son of Elder Adolphus (Elliot) Smith and Sister Augusta Dorthelius Banks Smith, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, April 23, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Carmella Delores McNair. Dr. Smith was born on July 17, 1929, in Urbancrest, Ohio, where the family lived for several years, before moving to Cambridge, Ohio for some years until Elder Adolphus and Sister Augusta accepted the call of the Lord to move to Canton, Ohio, where Elder Adolphus assumed the Pastorate of Christ Temple Apostolic Church, now known as Greater Bethel Apostolic Church. Dr. Smith graduated from Kent State University with a B.S. in Education and a Master's in History; and from Yale University with a PhD in Psychology. He held the positions of Assistant Dean of Administration and Executive Director of Yale's Transitional Year program. He moved to North Western University in Chicago, IL where he was Associate Professor of Education and Psychology, and Chairman of the Undergraduate and Graduate Standing committees in Education. His final move was to Northeastern University in Boston, MA., where he was Acting Dean of Education and Associate Provost.
He is survived by brothers, Elder Mark (Betty) Smith and Calvin Smith both of Canton; and sisters: Joanna Smith of Detroit, MI., Viola Reaves of Canton, OH and Frances Bendter of Cleveland; and nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, May 27, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., at Jesus Speaks Christian Center, located at 1103 McKinley Ave. N.W., Canton, Ohio 44703.

I am so sorry for your loss. I was in touch with Arthur until about three years ago when I could no longer reach him at the address or number I had. I feel terrible that he was alive during that time and I could not call him. I knew him at Northeastern many years ago. He was a wonderfully warm and wise man with a playful sense of humor. He is a loss to all of us who were his friends.
