Alford Caillet Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Alford "Coonie" Caillet will be held at 11:00 am on Monday February 22, 2021 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Officiating the services will be Fr. Jerry Martin. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Serenity Oaks Memorial Park. Coonie was born on July 20, 1943 in White Castle. He was a cost accountant for various construction companies in and around Baton Rouge. It had always been a dream of his to own and operate his own business and restaurant. He and Adeline owned and operated Seafood Lagniappe, of which he was the chef. While operating Seafood Lagniappe he developed his own fish fry, which was revered by everyone who ever had the delight of eating his seafood creations. He was well known for his delicious dishes, which family and friends always enjoyed. He particularly took pleasure in having crawfish boils. Coonie took great pride in being a U S Army veteran, having served time in Germany. While attending White Castle High School, he excelled in all sports. In fact, he lettered in many of those sports. He was elected to the White Castle Sports Hall of Fame in 1986, another accomplishment he proudly carried with him throughout his life. After his return from the Army, he played semi pro baseball for several years, followed by many years of playing softball. While living in Donaldsonville before he and Adeline moved to Baton Rouge, he was president of the Donaldsonville Jaycees, a position he held proudly. He is preceded in death by his parents Leroy and Lucille Knight Caillet. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Adeline G. Caillet, daughter and son-in-law Dana and Troy Genovese, son and daughter-in-law Michael and Danita Caillet, grandchildren Haley and Sean Genovese, Brooke, Amber, and Carly Caillet, great granddaughter Maddie Genovese, who he never had the privilege to know, brother Raymond Caillet and Mary, sister Donna Caillet. Lastly, he is survived by many close friends and relatives. Perhaps his greatest success was having a wonderful family. He was especially proud that Michael and Dana earned college degrees. Both have successful careers, wonderful spouses, five grandchildren, and one great grandchild. The family of Coonie Caillet wishes to thank in advance everyone who will come to celebrate his life. With a heavy heart due to COVID-19 restrictions we are unable to gather after the service. We sincerely appreciate all the acts of kindness and sympathies expressed by everyone. Special thanks to his Life Source Hospice Angels. With love and admiration of our dad we wish to dedicate these words which we learned from him. "Although in life there are no promises, there is no replacement for self-reliance, self-determination, resiliency, and above all, perseverance." We miss you terribly. Love, Dana, and Michael. Not sure what to say?

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends. I'll love and miss you papa coonie. I remember me and you cooking in the kitchen. We would go out to the little garden outside and pick one of the cucumbers that you planted. Then we would go into the kitchen and you would teach me how to cut the cucumber properly. I will never forget you. Hopefully you are looking down and smiling. I wish that you could have met Madelyn. May we meet again.

We extend our condolences to the Caillet family. We always enjoyed our visits with Coonie & Adeline at our group socials at St. George Catholic Church. He peeled crawfish faster than anyone I've ever seen.
