Amalia Arvanetes died on March 20, 2016 at Alden Estates, Orland Park at the age of 113. She was born in Anthohorion, Greece in 1903. She is survived by her son, John (Barbara) Arvanetes, with whom she made her home, Vasiliki Kotsogiannis, Ifigenia (John) Sgouros, and Nicki (Nicholas) Papanikolaou. She also leaves behind eleven grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Demetrios; two daughters, Katina Arvanetes and Ioanna Stavrianos; two sons-in-law, Triantaphyllos Kotsogiannis and Theofilos Stavrianos; and three infant great-grandchildren. One sister and four brothers also preceded her in death. Amalia loved being surrounded by her family and helped to raise her grandchildren. Through her life, she traveled to Greece often, visiting relatives, churches, and monasteries. She also fulfilled her heart's desire, visiting the Holy Land. She spent her free time reading her Bible, crocheting, taking very long walks, and watching "Wheel of Fortune" daily. Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 3:00-8:00 PM with the Trisagion Service at 7:00 PM at the Palos-Gaidas Funeral Home, 11028 S SW Highway (7700 W) Palos Hills. Friends and family asked to meet Wednesday morning directly at SS. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 11025 S Roberts Rd, Palos Hills at 9:40AM for the 10AM funeral service. A strong generation from Thoknia passed away together this year, blooming until the last day. I kindly remember beloved yiayia Amalia and her strong affection to me since my childhood.
May you be rest in Heaven just next to my grandfather Giorgos and grandmother Eleni. We miss you...pray for us!
