Betty Kathryn Kirk WAYNESBORO Betty Kathryn (Blair) Kirk died peacefully Feb. 26, 2020, at Greenwood Hospice, Ewing, NJ, a few weeks short of her 98th birthday. Born March 13, 1922, in Waynesboro, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ralph D. and Edith Hope Schaff Blair. Betty would often be seen in Blair's Drug Store, where her father was the pharmacist. She graduated from Waynesboro High School and Hagerstown Business College. While at a dance at Pen Mar Park, she met the love of her life, Dr. Daniel Kirk, and they were married more than 68 years before his death in 2011. Betty was a homemaker, supporting his career and volunteering often for homeroom mother activities and Band Booster. When she returned to Waynesboro, she was a very active church member at Trinity United Church of Christ, where she was a founding member of NGA and served as an Elder and an Usher. Betty was known for her generosity as well as for her love of beauty, especially in nature. She was a role model for many, and a person who freely gave advice when asked. She volunteered for years helping people with disabilities, and enjoyed her bridge clubs. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph D. Blair; a sister-in-law, Doris Trace; son, Daniel Lee Kirk Jr.; a niece, Lorena Trace Kershner; and granddaughter, Erin Kathryn Ritchey. Survivors include her daughter, Nancy K. (Kenneth) Ritchey, Ewing, NJ, with whom she made her home for eight years; two grandchildren, Kirk D. Ritchey, Houston, TX and Karen Kirk (Dave Wilderman), Landsdale; and daughter-in-law, Carol Kirk, Landsdale. She is also survived by her niece, Sally Trace Felix, Ewing, NJ; great-nephews, Kurt (Mary) Kershner and their children, Landon and Lauren, Macungie and Ken (Catherine) Kershner, Alaska; a cousin, George T. (Marge) Fitz of Wernersville and Betty's special four-legged buddy, Cairo. Betty also leaves behind other family and friends. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2020, in Trinity United Church of Christ, 30 West North St., Waynesboro, with the Rev. Dr. Bruce R. Druckenmiller officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Erin Ritchey Memorial Fund, c/o A Brighter Tomorrow/Dayton Foundation, 1401 S. Main St., #100, Dayton, OH 45409 or a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro.
